I'll take what I can get for now. Imagine a sleek bfr JP with tone block and those shiny frets!!? I don't know if I should thank BP or Petrucci more! I know purist won't like em, but I think this was a super smart move!!! If Petrucci likes he must know what's best!!!! He really gets whatever he wants at mm. I imagine if he wanted a pink guitar with purple polkadots and tassels we would see this next.

How do I know if my jpx has stainless? I got it about 1.5 years from my local guitar center. What is it if not stainless? Thanks.

Not stainless. According to video only JP guitars made starting yesterday are stainless. Some people don't like stainless anyway. It's probably Nickel. Nothing you can do you've had it for 1.5 years! I mean its still an awesome guitar... You may not even like the stainless.

It's alright. I'm just going to have to get myself a jpxi this year. I might get a jp12 but I'd like to watch a video comparison of the two first. I just love the onyx finish!!!

I know that stainless steel frets are more durable and a harder material than nickel frets. They should last longer and would need to be dressed less often. They are also more smooth feeling when played. Hope this stuff makes sense. Sorry I don't have more info than that.

Someone explained to me earlier alder would be more accented in the midrange and basswood would be the high range. I typically own basswood And I can say its bright and resonant. My mahogany guitars are warmer and seem to be maybe a tad less resonant. My understanding is alder would be in between these... Probably not really noticeable when plugged in. Stainless frets are bright and slippery, but are very durable. Honestly, it may be in my head, but I feel like I can shred with more finesse on the stainless. I believe the petrucci frets are jumbo and have fretboards of 15" radius up to 19". This guitar is designed to shred... I believe it's a 19" radius. I would really not even take the wood into account and base my decision on the radius of fretboard. However, I'm skipping the jpxi and jpxii to get the bfr stained top even though I believe it has the 15". I just really want the stain, but 15" is still a shredding radius. I've never played 19 so you may want to check in stores. I know I just rambled, but wanted to help those really considering buying this based on the basswood alone since there are other more crucial specs.
