What exactly does "hardwood" body mean? What type of wood/blend? How will it differ from my Silo30?

Thanks for the sheets! :) Can't wait - what a decision! A red Silo3 with a non-maple board (not my favorite but the red may be enough to get me to buy one) or a red-quilt AX3????

Do you know if GC will be stocking the Sub series so we can try them out? If the silo3 is anything like my Silo30 I'll buy one site-unseen. But I'd really like to play the AX3. Every AX40 I've tried usually needs some attention setup-wise so I don't get the true feel of the Axis-type neck. Definitely a different feel than my Silo.

Re-reading BP's post above I think I'm going with the Silo3. He knows a thing or two about guitars and if he raves about the quality for the buck that's good enough for me. I just love the neck on my Silo30 and the sounds I can get are really nice. My old original electric has a rosewood board so that isn't that big of a deal. PLUS, red is my favorite color! :)

the Hardwood solid body is made of Jabon. It's a local Indonesian hardwood used by many top brands. It's light in weight and is very similar to Basswood in tone and weight.

No - the thanks goes to BP and co. for developing really nice instruments that allow more people to enjoy some of the MM vibe. Even used I simply can't afford a SLO-made MM.

So no SBMM JP7 this year. I want to sell my second guitar and buy a 7 strings but for the moment an EBMM JP7 is too expansive so.

Hi Pat / EBMM team,

First of all - congrats on what looked like a great show. All busy, and hopefully in a really good way!

I have been looking at taking the plunge and buying my first MusicMan - the new models look great. However, I have one question - all the SBMM models are tremelo models, so wondered if there was a particular reason for this. Is the demand just not there for hard-tail models?

My youngest kid will be 9 in May and has been asking me to buy him a guitar and/or bass for him to learn how to play. I think for his birthday, if the guitars are out by then, I will be getting him one of these. I don't know how you guys pulled off these guitars and basses at those prices but I am impressed and will be investing.

Ditto, I will get one of these for my daughter.

Hey all. Back after a lengthy vacation. I'm trying to decide which to get, and with this SUB series, you've made my life harder! I love the Axis shape, thanks to the EVH influence. His new ones don't do it for me. It's the Axis all the way, but they're pricey for a starving college student/musician. I'm gonna get one of the AX40s cause I like the setup, but that SUB Silo3 looks amazing. I dig the maple board.

Hey guys,
Just literally walked in the door a few minutes ago. Had a great show. The show was crazy busy this year.

I will post pictures of the new models and our new SUB Series line tomorrow.

SBMM new for this year:
-AX40-TBK, trans black finish. Looks killer and was one of the most requested finishes for this model.
-JP100-3TS, 3 tone sunburst finish. Really works for this guitar. Looks sharp.
-JP60-PRB, the Pearl Red Burst finish has returned and is now available on the JP60 model. FYI - the JP60 has jumbo frets, Shield inlays, 3 way metal switch and John Petrucci's signature on the headstock.
-Ray34CA-BK, black finish with maple neck/fingerboard and tortoise shell pick guard.
-Ray34CA-VC, vintage creme w/ rosewood fingerboard and tortoise shell pick guard.
-Ray34-BLSP, Blue sparkle, this uses a large flake and looks really nice.

SUB Series
our new line of lower priced instruments. Street prices range from $199-$299 (USA prices).
Super high quality for this price point.

-Silo3 - based on the Silo30, available in Red, White and Black. 22 fret neck, trem bridge, 2 single coils and 1 hum bucker. Vol & tone.

-AX3 - based on the AX30, available in trans red and trans blue, 22 fret neck, term bridge, 2 hi output hum buckers. Bound top w/ faux quilt maple top. 5 way switch, vol & tone controls.

Ray4 - 4 string bass based on the Ray34, active 2 band preamp, hum bucking bass pickup, available in white, black and walnut satin. Has the narrow 38 mm nut width. This is a killer bass for the money! The Walnut satin finish is really nice.

Ray5 - 5 string based on the Ray35, available in black w/ maple fingerboard. 2 band preamp and hum bucking bass pickup.

Hi, I am new here, but I was wondering what the nut width is on the JP guitars? I know it is 1.63 on the AX's and 1.65 I believe on the SILO's..

Thanks in advance for the info..

I officially want a Silo3 and an Ax3. Can't wait til these are available for purchase.

Pat, do these come with gigbags like the other Sterling models?

Which colors are you looking at? I think the Red in both models look beauty but they all look sick TBH. I believe a way of keeping price down is by NOT including a gig bag.

Pat, any chance of us forumites guessing how many jelly beans in the jar contest for a freebie??? haha!

Hmmm, I coulda swore there were hardtail AX and Silo models, but now I can't seem to find any proof or evidence of this. Am I going crazy?

Nah, you're not going nuts, by any means. The AX20 and the Silo20 were hardtail versions of the AX30 and Silo30, but they were replaced by them.
However, IIRC, the Silo20 had 24 frets and an HSH configuration, instead of 22 frets and an HSS configuration.
