Word! Serious bang for the buck.

I was in GC yesterday during my lunch break at work and they had the white one with the Rosewood board on it. The thing was AMAZING!!!! It played PERFECTLY right off of the rack. They must have just gotten it in as it showed absolutely NO signs of wear. Perfect tune and intonation and the necked SMOKED. I couldn't believe it. I wish the one I bought back in '10 (my avatar above) was as perfect as that one. It was close but this one just played so good. You should have seen the beautiful grain on the neck - AMAZING! I so wanted to walk out of there with it but I'd have gotten in serious trouble at home ;).

One thing I noticed though. The trem was flush with the body. Pat - if you see this isn't the standard for the trem to be floating? I wonder if the GC tech worked on the guitar and cranked it down. Mabye they'd had it for a while the the GC tech just did a set up on it.

Hmmm, I coulda swore there were hardtail AX and Silo models, but now I can't seem to find any proof or evidence of this. Am I going crazy?

Which colors are you looking at? I think the Red in both models look beauty but they all look sick TBH. I believe a way of keeping price down is by NOT including a gig bag.

Pat, any chance of us forumites guessing how many jelly beans in the jar contest for a freebie??? haha!

I like the white Silo3 and the blue Ax3. I think both of of those will be ordered as soon as they are available. I actually have extra gigbags, but was curious if those came with one.

Hmm, I didn't realize the trem was supposed to be set floating. I was under the impression they were flush. Perhaps Pat can chime in here and help us out.

The White Silo30 looks SUPER classy!

That's going to be sweet. What are you modding on your Silo30? Love to see some pics.

No - I'm looking at AX20 for my EBMM needs, as there are a couple at shops near me and I don't use trem at all when playing. I would love a a steve morse model, but can't afford that much at the moment.

They ship not floating (flush with the body) sometimes the springs stretch or someone at the store adjusts them to float for preference.

Hey Pat....I see the ax3 is advertised with a maple top image and the ax40 is listed as a maple veneer top. What's the difference between the two? They both look the same to me. How thick is the maple veneer on the ax40?

Maple veneer top is made of real quilt maple. It just very thin, but it is real wood.

The image top is an image of figured wood. It helps keep costs while still delivering a great looking top.

Hope the info helps.

Thanks Pat. That does help. Im definitely interested in the black quilt. The sterling guitars are fantastic value for the money.

Would it be cost effective to use a real non figured maple top and then put a veneer over it? That way you could still get the tone from the maple along with the looks.

never thought of that. I think it might be a good thing. Maybe not really cost effective as just adding the extra maple will raise costs.

Pat - how do the necks between the Silo 3 and the AX3 compare profile-wise? I would assume the Silo 3 would have the same profile as my Silo 30 (feels round - symmetrical) and the AX3 the same as the AX30 (asymmetrical).

Thanks

I'm curious about this too. Are they similar profiles to the AX30 or Silo30?

Thanks for all the info Pat. All these new SBMM guitars are exciting and affordable right now.

the site should be updated within the next 3-4 days. JP7 can't go into too much detail, other than it is coming this year.

Hmmm, looks like the site has been updated. Looking good there Pat!
Now the JP7…now there's a coming soon.
