New Amp??

Looking to replace my Fender Cybertwin SE. It's way too complicated for my simple mind. I'm looking very hard at the Egnater Renegade 2x12 combo. Any thoughts?

Well as for me...I'm currently using Randall MTS ALL tube amps. They sound amazing & alot of their design comes from Bruce Egnater.

Killer tone & they're affordable too !

OK Kevin now thats out the other factor is price range; how much you looking to spend. Your going to get a bunch of different answers and opinions. Everyone has their favorites.

With that said, in the mid price range the new H&K Tubemeister is awesome especially for what you seek, I have one and Browndog has one.

In the lower range the Marshll Class 5 is sweet, cleans lack a little though but in a lower range you are going to have limitations.

If you want more expensive I love my set up of a PRS Sweet 16 Head with a Bogner 2X12 cab loaded with celestions. I get everything you want with this set up, but it is quite expensive.

Good luck and let us know what you decide on.

On a plus side go to GC and start trying amps!!

Mesa Mini Rec's are very very good, not horribly expensive and a joy to carry around!!!!

I replaced my F****r Cyber Twin with a Mesa Mark V and 2x12 Three Quarterback for pure tube tone; the combo would have worked for me as well and would include casters. Most of the reviews lean on this amp as rock style amp but don't be fooled. Channel 1 = Clean will tonnes of head room in the 45 watt and expecially in the 90 watt mode. Setup channel 1 in 30 seconds using 30% tube reverb and the rotary EQ. Channel 2 = Blues heaven. Setup channel 2 in 30 seconds using 20% tube reverb and the rotary EQ. Channel 3 = Rocking Blues to Burning Lead. Channel 3 was a little trickier using the EQ sliders because there is so much tonal control in the 5 sliders. Best to get channel 3 in the tone zone without the EQ, level the EQ then adjust slightly. This set up covers all styles and with the 10 watt settings, the reduced power switch and the output level, it can be tamed for the bedroom.

I have a Renegade head and it's awesome. Highly recommended. Gratuitous shot enclosed I find 2 x 12's a pain to lug around, much prefer head and cab. I also have a Fryette Memphis 1 x 12 that excels at what you're looking for.

Man, that's a tough order to fill. To be very perfectly honest, I have never tried an amp (i have tried, oh so many) where I had access to killer cleans, blues and beefy crunch all in one. I always ended up using two separate amps (which is probably not what you're looking to do) or gone high end modeling. (But you're not looking for super features)

What, I would end up doing in this case, and to help save on money and a little back pain, would be to get an extremely sound and pristine clean amp, and run pedals for the other two tones. (What's your budget by the way?)

1. Two-Rock Studio Pro 22/35. I know its Two Rock, but these are on the much more affordable side, still very expensive, but a wonderfully transparent and organic clean amp. You could get a Twin reissue, or locate a vintage one, or scour for a super reverb, any food old black/silver face, or any other excellent clean amp.

2. H.A. Zendrive or Xotic BB for blues tones.

3. Suhr Riot - Beefy crunch.

That's what I'd do. personally.

I'm leaning towards davetcan's rig. I always liked combos for the simple fact that I don't have to lug 2 separate pieces. The renegade combo supposedly has removable casters. I'll look hard at the mini rec. also. One thing for sure, I'll take my 25th to GC when I test drive them. Thanks to all for the advice.

Check out the Orange Tiny Terror. It only has one channel but you might be able to get a few cool sounds with the series/parallel switch and the volume knob. I also tried an Egnater Tweaker recently and it had some cool sounds. Both are available in combo format.

btw I still have an OCD and a Klon clone on my board to juice things up when needed. The Renegade gives you clean and dirty + footswitchable boost on both channels + footswitchable effects loop and reverb. You also have the option of having reverb, boost, and effects available to one or both channels. Extremely versatile rig.

For your needs I must recommend Mark V.

Chrystal clear cleans. Bassy cleans. A lot of options for cleans really.
For blues it's also absolutely PERFECT!

The only thing I don't know if it can do is the hard rock tone, depending on what kind of hard rock you mean. It doesn't sound like a Marshall. It does however have a nice rock sound, in my opinion.

I just picked up my Hughes Kettner Tubemeister 18 Head and cab. I like it quite a bit. The cab is 1x12 Celestion v30. The head is very versatile with the power soak switch for; off (speaker off, used for redbox output direct to board) 1W, 5W 18W. It's super loud even on only 5watts. Easy to lug around and not too bad on price. Little cheaper than the Mesa.

A recent clip of the Renegade. I suck but was very pleased with the tone from this rig all night. Also took really well to my AL HH that night. This was clean Renegade + OCD I believe. Can get the Renegade to sound exactly like this without the pedal + it has bags more gain on tap if required. Lots of better vids with much better players out there though

This is all great stuff, guys. I know it's been done before(the thread) and i really appreciate it. Has anyone played one of the newer Peavey Classic 50 2x12 combos lately? They've always produced a great clean tone & killer blues tone. I could fix the hard rock stuff with a good pedal(boss metal zone, etc.)

Well, ScoobySteve was right. Hard order to fill!

Personally,mid lean towards a two channel amp - one designed for clean and one to get the hard rock sound. I think the most imporatant way to do it is to get nd amp with the hard rock tone you want and that also has a clean channel than live with. Then I'd buy a TS type pedal for the blues tone. OR, I'd just get a Mesa Mark V and be done with it. . Disclaimer: I do NOT own one - but I would love to!

I have wonderful amps and I have one that does all three things you want - the Orange RV50. But if you don't like it's dirty tone then forget it. Good luck!
