Hi there!

I bought a HS Stingray bass a couple of years ago, the original owner had a problem with the single pickup and he removed it... so i bought the bass wired as a single humbucker, i have tried contacting musicman and they wont sell the the pickup if i dont have the original... so i was wondering if there is any replacement pickups out there that would fit the original bass. i really want to get it back to stock!
thanks for your input.

That's a tough one, MM single coil pickups are extremely rare to find for sale and I've only seen MM style Humbuckers available aftermarket never single coils. Did you ask Customer Service if you could send the whole bass to them to get it put back to stock? I would ether keep it as is or sell it and buy a SR new or used before investing in modifying it to a hybrid. Rick

Since you dig the bass and it's unique just be vigilant and keep your eye out and for an original pickup.
So welcome aboard, stick around and by all means throw up a pic of your bass, it's a definite pre requisite here. Rick

What about the option of a custom pick-up made to MusicMan specifications by a luthier? I don't think it will be that expensive...

The Music Man single coils are all Neodymium magnet pickups. With the five-way switch enabling the player to only use the bridge pickup if they so choose, there is no reason to ever remove the neck pickup in the first place. It fairly boggles the mind, as my Canadian Maritime friend says.

Have you checked under the pickguard? The HS Stingray actually is an HSS with an extra humcancelling single coil under the pickguard.

You can buy a Nordstrand stingray pickup and split the coils adding one in each cavity.
Music man will sell you the pickup covers for single coil.
