Hey guys,

had quite a busy week EBMM-wise and thought I'd share...

First of all, I had a little time on my hands to finally install a new pickguard on my RM/BS Morse...I had the pg lying around for weeks so I'm glad it's finally done! So, the roasted Morse is now sporting a tort scratchplate...

Gotta go for a walk with the dog now but will be back with the second mod later today!

OK...second mod:

Back when I got my tangerine pearl Silo Spec I ordered it with a vintage white pearloid scratchplate. Somehow, it arrived with a "normal" white pearloid scratchplate...needless to say, I got a replacement vintage white pg free of charge!

So while I was at it I installed a set of BareKnuckle Irish Tours that I had in the drawer and mounted it on the Silo Special...they're really great pickups and a bit of a departure from the stock DiMarzios but I have to admit that I tend to like the stock ones even better...anyone who has not yet tried a Silo Special is hereby strongly advised to do so!

Anyways, here's the Silo Special with vintage white pearloid pg and black pu covers and knobs...

...and what about the order?

Soon...I'll stick to the order in the thread title...;)

It looks awesome on the Morse and I'm sure it looks even better in the flesh!

Thanks Kev...I know that tort pickguards are not everyone's cup of tea but I love them, too. This one's a little brighter in colour compared to my MM90 AL's one...and yes, it looks even better in the flesh!

The Morse is great (how do you like it?)
The silo was better before imho, but anyways... sexy

Thanks Steffen, I think the Morse turned out awesome. First I was toying with the idea of getting something completely "unconventional" but for my taste tortoise shell is a great companion for black sugar.

As for the Silo...I think I'll go back to white covers and knobs on the vintage white pg...and the orig. pickguard is untouched and will most likely go back on because I like the DiMarzio's better with this guitar.

The "NGD" chapter will follow...

Chapter 3: NGD!

This one came out of the blue for me...on my weekly eBay routine I happened to come across what I thought was an older, slightly yellowed white AL with a bit of grime to the neck at a great "buy-it-now" price. The auction wasn't very descriptive and neither were the two pics, it basically just said somewhat like "used Albert Lee, good condition"...with the auction being only a couple of hours old I contacted the seller to get some additional information but again he was neither very talkative nor knowledgeable and gave only a brief answer in which he stated that the guitar was in very good shape and that he had it for about a couple of months but didn't bond with it. So I made him an offer which he accepted without hesitation...I was shocked how fast the deal was completed!

To make a long story short...I expected a used and slightly aged white AL hardtail to arrive on my doorstep. Little did I know...first of all I was wrong about the paint. Aged white? Nope, it's White Pearl! Grimy neck? Nah...just a healthy dose of figuring going on! Above that, the guitar was virtually untouched...I have yet to find one single sign of use. After I got the DOB I have a valid theory about why it's still dead mint: It's not even four months old!

Enough bothering you guys, here are a couple of shots:

wow that is a great AL! Very very Yummy!
I saw the auction ...

Another tireless eBay browser...;) He put it up for sale at 8:30 in the morning, by 2 PM it was sold...!
Could be that he listed it before...?

Just to be clear...the seller is really a nice guy and probably a great player but it was obvious that he didn't really care about this guitar...he seemed glad he got rid of it so fast and didn't the best job advertising it. I mean, it was a steal for a basically brand new AL!

Thanks David, as I mentioned the Morse came out pretty awesome IMHO, I'm still not so sure about the black covers on the Silo...any thoughts?

And yes, good observation with the Dargie 2...it's a fantastic guitar that really doesn't get out of the case much and with the other ALs around I somehow feel one SSS guitar has to go. I'm sure that's stuff for a future "regret" thread!

Pretty much the same thing with my beloved 25th...it'll be even harder to part with it, but...
...I placed an order for a guitar that will be all that and more...:)

Great thread!

Not normally a tort fan, but that works! Looks "right" on the roasted Morse.

Both the before and after pics of the tangerine pearl look fantastic, not sure which is my fave. Tastefully done.

That Al........ what a great score. When I see white pick guards, I see blank canvas.......... tempted for a change there?

Awesome mods.

Those look awesome. I'm also glad that you are bringing the silo spec pickups to the forefront. I have them on my modified sub 1 and have parts of another set in my guitar box, waiting for a home.

Patrick - there's one thing I like better than a black guitar - that's a black guitar with Tort - looks classic.

It sounds like maybe you got the Al for a good price too.

Nice !!

Not sure about the black cover on the silo Spec either, as for the new order I feel TGC on it's way ;)

The 25th is a great guitar, while playing live it's always a bit of a challenge to switch back and forth but I really like it

Looking again, I am warming to the white pickups and controls.

I sense you are too?

Hmmm...I'm not sure at the moment, I really like both but can't help wondering how the white covers would look like with the vintage white pg...maybe a bit too harsh? I could imagine parchment or creme covers and knobs, too...

aha... which one? :) Game Changer? :)

Exactly...that was a little too easy, wasn't it...? ;)

I really don't have one bad word to say about the Barknuckles, they're really great but the stock ones sound just sooo right...:)

Thanks Spud! Yes, tort on black is about as classic as it gets...the only worry I had was how it would look with the gold flakes in the paint...and it works brilliantly IMO!

I never paid less money for an AL than for this one, so I guess the price really was good! Hadn't planned to get another one so I'm still a bit shocked...haven't spent too much time with it but it really has something going on I can't put my finger on just yet...it's magnificent!
