Does anyone knows the string action and PU-height of Lqifre and Chunchlab in John Petruccis personal JPX7??

I am tired of trying hundreds of different settings for my Guitar

Aren't the pickups set in the body so that you can't adjust their height? As far as his action goes, I remember seeing an interview in which he said he likes it as low as it can possibly go. You can hear his strings buzzing sometimes when he goes clean in some live videos.

What would make you think you'd like JP's if you have tried hundreds? You have probably had his more than once.

I agree with brokenvail, unless you dig REALLY low setups, you won't like JP's. If you search the forum you may find them, I seem to remember having seen them once and the only way to get the action that low is to have an excellent fret job done, and still you'd have a fair amount of string buzz to deal with.
The only way to have a good setup is to set it the way YOU like it, the way it plays better to YOU, just my two cents.

what is it you're not getting with your set up? what are you trying to accomplish? I only ask because I too have a JPX.

I just read the expanded version of this question at the Petrucci forum. My guess is that your issue has more to do with dialing in the right amp than pickup height and action. Jmho.

Let me expand on my last statement... I have a JPXI and a Mark V. After setting my amp up as JP describes in these two videos, I have no problems getting a tone very close to his. Not only that, but when my JP arrived, I lowered the action a bit to my liking. The tone is still very close to JP's.

I hope this helps.

He never went into detail about his settings on the back of the Mark V.

The amount of buzz you'll get depends on how hard you pick, what kind of pick you use, the angle you hit the strings at, etc. Obviously, if you pick really hard you'll get significant buzz at when other might get none at all. I get a lot of buzz with a pick but none if I use just my fingers.

How do I set up my John Petrucci guitar?

BTW, when we're setting up our guitars we often "zone in" on what we are doing. We can start chasing little tiny things that we'd never notice while actually playing music, becoming over-sensitive to what we're trying to achieve. Don't let it bug you. A little string buzz is not a problem and at very low action, severe buzz is inevitable for many players (like me). We just have to accept that our technique needs more string height. :)

Thanx for all the replies guys, honetly I dont have a Jpx but I would really like to, I own a IBanez 1527 with Liquifire chrunchlab pair, the string action does not really matter for me, only to know a little bit more about the distance of the Liquifre to the strings, as I said , that ***** reacts very sensitive on my Guitar to height. Is the Liquifire on the Jpx7 fspaced???
on my Izzy ists not, I have an edge zere tremolo, on my floid rose esp sixstring they are f spaced, and I have never had big problems. So again its not any more about palyability its just to know how to tweak my Liqui propperly.

Could it be that the Liquifire In JPX is turned around, heard John did that with his Air Norton before he had his sinature ones.

Or maybe mine is turned around....

Oh no, has nothing to do with my amp, love my tone with my modified esp with Liqui-Chrunch pair in it.
I play through a Engl powerball and love it, though I was several times thinking of purchasing a MARKV

But as I startet to set up my Izzy 1527 because I did not like the settings from my dealer who did the service, everithing came out od control.

Great info! Thanks for the link.
As far as string buzz goes, I got that from an interview with JP years ago. He was still using the standard JPs back then and mentioned that he liked a super-low action. I have no idea if his preferences changed or not since then. He was still using 9's at the time.
The setup that my JP11 had didn't buzz at all. In fact, I thought the action was a bit higher than I like so I lowered it and it still doesn't buzz.
