Now that the JPs have them, I was hoping to see it as an option for some of the other models as well. Is this a likely possibility or not?

They're smoother on bends and last a very long time. You probably don't have to worry about a refret with them. That's the huge appeal for me.

I seriously doubt that if I make a recording that you would be able to tell whether it's stainless or nickel. Jmho.

I'll agree with you on that one. It makes sense that the tone is noticeably different between stainless and nickel strings, as they're the vibrating item that's being heard/amplified, however, the fret is just the hard thing they...hmm...capo on? As the frets don't do any (audible/intentionally amplified) vibrating themselves, then I would assume that any tonal variation would be so minimal that by the time any processing/mastering is done to the recorded track, the aforementioned variation would cease to exist.

To summarize my ramble above, I would love to see the stainless steel frets be at least offered as an option on all EBMM models. Yahoo to stainless steel frets!

By the way, for some reason, I've been a life-long fan of stainless steel. My wedding ring is made out of stainless steel even LoL.

When the music man artist roster pushes for them I think we'll see them. I've got a couple of guitars with them and I do like the fact that they require a lot less maintenance. They feel a little better (less drag) when bending, but the EBMM necks are so nice that the EBMMs are still easier to play overall. If it were an option, I'd choose to have SS on any new guitar I ordered.

That said, I've had better players than I tell me that they don't like the tonal difference (increased brightness).

Also, the artists that would need to push for SS frets generally don't need to "fret" - pun intended - about a bit more maintenance. That's what guitar techs are for. The artists are going to go with what sounds best every time.

My wife's wedding ring is made from stainless steel, so you are in good company!

Indeed....tru oil is meant to be periodically renewed. So taking the finish down with steel wool or very fine sandpaper (600). With a full refinish, you'd want to clean off any wax and take down the tru oil enough to rough up the surface a bit (400 or so) and then refinish. I have taken necks completely down to wood and sanded to 600 with great results.

This is the best neck finish ever!
