A sad day for the guitar playing community, with the loss of a true innovator.

Sad news. I haven't been a Marshall guy for years, but from time to time I play at a studio with a number of different amps and I always opt for a JCM 800. They just always sound right!
An interesting Jim Marshall story:
A few years ago (I don't know, maybe it was 2005 or so), I was at Winter NAMM in Anaheim and I was outside having a smoke. Finished the smoke and went to go back into the show. As I'm on my way in, a guard is hassling this little old guy that he can't get into the show without a badge. I look, and it's Jim Marshall! I told the guard: "Do you realize who this is?!? This is Jim Marshall -- you know, Marshall amps -- without whom there might not have been a NAMM or a music gear industry!"
The guard looked at me like I was speaking German. Apparently not a guitar player.
So I said, "Mr. Marshall -- you can use my badge to get in. Once you get to the Marshall booth, just send someone back out with it." He thanked me and took the badge and went in. A guy came back out with my badge and thanked me profusely. Later on, I stopped by the Marshall booth (room, actually) to check out their stuff. And Jim Marshall came up to me and thanked me again (which I thought was cool -- I'd have thought he might have forgotten me already given how hectic NAMM can me).
A fine man. RIP, Mr. Marshall.
