My Silhouette has a gap at the neck joint on the bass side. You could fit a business card in there and my guitar is only 5 months old. Also, is the spacing on my bridge pickup normal? The spacing seems a little off. Please refer to the photos that I've attached.

What is your opinion?

My opinion is it wants sorting. The neck pocket should be a perfect fit and not have a gap that will hold a business card or anything else. That bridge pup is way out. If you purchased this guitar new from an official dealer I would take it back and ask them to sort it and depending on their answer I would also contact customer support. Before anyone else says if it plays and sounds OK it is fine I would suggest that if the neck fitted the pocket correctly and the bridge pup was correctly aligned it would sound a whole lot better.

Hi Fevo
as the guys have said - if it's a new guitar, sort it via the dealer/CS.

I would not have accepted a guitar with a gap like that - there are "gaps" and there are "gaps", but your photo indicates that the gap seems to me to be excessive.

My other observation is the the bass e string looks a long way from the fretboard edge, so I would be looking to see if it has had a re cut nut.

The stance taken by EB is that they will help you to sort out your problem - but if it has suffered from the hands of a guitar butcher, sorry, tech, then they will probably help only so far - anyways I'm not EB so contact them for the "low down" their Customer Service does what it says on the tin.

Here are a few questions. How does it play? How does it feel? Do the gaps change any of those things? I have a guitar whose neck pocket is a little big, like yours. It's one of the best playing and best sounding guitars I have. So, I chose to do nothing. I could have contacted Customer Service, but I didn't. I asked my dealer about it, but again, I ultimately chose to do nothing. The guitar was so amazing. What you choose to do is up to you. I'm not advocating a particular course of action. I'm just pointing out what I did. I'm sure Customer Service will help you out if your dealer does not, and I'm sure they'll be super nice about it.

Thanks for all the responses! EBMM said that because it was hand sanded, gaps like these vary from guitar to guitar. The guitar plays fine, just that I was quite concerned when I spotted the gap! So apparently, I will have to live with the gap.

Anyone else finds this occurring in EBMM guitars?

Hello

On my 3 EBMM guitars, the neck joint is really tight on my Axis and on my SUB.
On my Morse, there is a gap.
My Morse is now an old lady (10 years old) and last year I made a complete setup. I removed the neck :

When I put it back, I was able to decrease a bit the gap.
But in any case, it's just cosmetic : it does not change the sound or the sustain.
The important point is to have a perfect contact between the heel of the neck and the body. Thus it has to be perfectly plan. The 5 screws have to apply an equal pressure.

Hi Fbecir,

Thanks for your reply (and pictures!). Good to know the slight gap isn't all that bad. :) Your Morse is in such good shape after 10 years!
