I was playing my BFR AL today and clocked my own signature my AL was made 4 years ago today! -Firstly I can't get my ahead around that being 4 years ago - and secondly I thought I'd do a report as to how our relationship has gone.
For those who don't know this was lucky enough to buy this form Strummer via DaveB after Strummer won it at the first UK bash. to my knowledge this was the first one of these brought into the UK and despite having a bit of a shaky start together it's been my 'daily player' for 4 years now.
For me this is a strat and tele in one (with a lot more due to the silent circuit and locking tuners) - it's a hugely versitile instrument and the maple neck along with the mahogany tone block makes it more resonant than a a standard AL. (in my opinion) The variation of tones I can get out of this guitar without touching an amp or adding any pedals still blows my mind (god knows what a game changer will do to me!)
On to the paint.... It takes a sexually comfortable man to play a pink guitar, but this is an easy sell for me, I'm reminded of sherbert strawberries when I look at this guitar, and have often wondered if I licked it would it taste the same! - I've not but have been tempted on occasion... Anyway despite being uncased for 4 years on a rack, put up against and amp, let near my children, and passed around to friends when visiting I can say there's not a mark on it - I can't think of another brand I could say that for - some use 'bucklerash' as an excuse for poor finishing - not the case with EBMM.
So overall, this guitar 4 years down the line is a 100% keeper, it's also signed by Sterling, Brian and Scott (twice by Sterling in fact) so although I didn't win it at the auction, it means alot to me now.
I suppose the other reason for posting this is there doesn't appear to be a load of people getting these recenty, and if anyone is on the fence and looking for an honest review (even through I'm a fanboi!) then hopefully this will help you out. It was at the time the most money I'd ever spent on a guitar, and for someone with my limited playing skills and remote location I did question myself as to why I'd spend so much - but I don't regret it, and the same rules applied to my 25th - Worth the expenditure - no questions.
Anyway, hope this makes sense to you potential purchasers, and if anyone has any questions, or if I've missed bits - hit me up...
