Looking into new pickups for my Silhouette Special. It's an HSS, but I'm thinking about converting it into an SSS. Looking for slightly warmer, fuller sound. Any suggestions?

I have a Silo Special with SSS. Currently I have ALL DiMarzios in mine. They are as follows...Area 61 (Bridge), Area 58 (Mid), Area 67 (Neck)...all are hum cancelling.

I'm thinking I may change to DiMarzio Injectors in the Bridge & Neck and put my Area 67 in the Middle position. This would put me very, VERY close to Paul Gilberts tone !!

I still have a pickguard for the HSS setup. I'm thinking I'll set that pick guard up for an Andy Timmons setup...DiMarzio AT100 (Bridge), and Cruisers in the Middle & Neck positions !

I hope this has been helpful.

I guess depends what kind of sound you're going for. But Tubes4Tone mentioned the Andy Timmons set. He has an amazing tone going on and the Cruisers could fit that bill for the single coil slots. That is if you dont mind the look of the two bar magnets there instead of the standard pole pieces. I personally like the look. I had the Cruiser when I had my Silo Special and it was really awesome fat sounding single coil tone. And for a fat humbucker tone the AT-1 is also really good or an Air Zone is similar. The Suhr pickups are also really good. The ML singles are really good...if you want a really fat bridge pickup the DSH+ is amazing! I have that in my Y2D...might be hard to balance with singles though.

I have a Strat that i'm running Area 67-67-61 (N-M-B) and love it. The '67s have a feel that I like just a bit more than the '58s.

I don't have a Silhouette but I was thinking about getting one and swapping out the pups too. I was looking up different single coils and saw this video. I know it's difficult to judge them just on a video but they do seem pretty good and they are demoed in a Silo.

I just got a set of the D Allen true vintage '54s. Pretty amazing so far, fantastic build quality. I have a couple of gigs this week so I'll give them a run. Thought the middle is RW/RP, they are not noiseless. DiMarzio Areas if you still need the noise-free design.

On a related note - I really need a single-coil EBMM...
