When I ordered my JP Koa 7 in January, I asked whether or not they would be making them in finishes other than Islandburst this year. They said no. However, as has been pointed out recently, the MM website now says that Koas will come in Honey Burst. Does anyone know if this is true? I would LOVE the opportunity to get another koa in a non-islandburst finish. (Islandburst is cool, but as I want multiple koas for different tunings, etc., I would really like to be able to have a variety of finishes.)

Thanks!

I just started a thread recently about a simalar issue. From what I have seen, the Honey Burst and Island Burst color names have been used interchangeably on some retail sites. It wasnt until I got an email from CS that it became clear that my BFR JP6 Koa is Island burst.

It appears from what I have seen that the Koas come in one finish. That being said, you could gain a little variety by going with the different hardware options, (this may actually handle the finish issue for you too, this is where it is unclear to me)

The Koas sold through Guitar Center/ Musicians Friend are Island Burst with chrome hardware, the ones sold elsewhere are all gold hardware/ and i believe? Honey Burst. To see some up close pictures of my Koa from GC just check out the album on my profile.

I'll get pics of my koa up soon (it's on its way back from the factory after a quick repair). There have been three distinct koa finishes--original, honey-burst, and island-burst. I have owned one of each, and each look VERY different in person. So, if they have indeed brought the honey-burst back, I'd be very excited. In regards to the GC chrome hardware thing, I've thought about it. If they do another 15% off thing soon, I might go for it.

They weren't running one when I got mine, but my wife and I convinced them. Cash speaks. They threw the 15%off in without too much trouble.

I ordered my JP7 Koa on January 23rd, so after they made all the changes. The website says Honey Burst, though my packing slip when the guitar came in said Island Burst. They could be the same colour just labeled incorrectly on the site perhaps?

The guitar really changed colour depending on the lighting too!

Originally the Koas were a Tobacco Burst. We then switched to Island Burst which is a variation on Honey Burst, hence the discrepancy on the website. Thanks for the heads up, it should all be fixed. Great looking guitars too!

So.. what does that mean?
That all Koas come in Island Burst? Or in Honey Burst?

And just for fun; Are there any color charts where you can compare the two?

Hello AJ! I am the guy here in SoCal that called half a dozen times about my BFR Koa! Mostly before I had picked it up. Thank you for all your help!

Alright. Would've still been fun though to see side-by-side comparison - yes I am geeky and interested in details.
But I'll just google it or something.

Thanks for clearing up what finish the Koas come with though! :)

Well.. After a little priv. posting, it looks like I will be buying SpeakingToStone's JP7 BFR KOA...
I'd also love to see a secondary finish again, but.. The most important thing for me was always having a neutral figured top, or flames.. I've seen a few tops with vertical stripes on it, and it gets really contrast-ish.. So, no matter the finish.. flames please, or at least a flat neutral looking board :p
