So, after a long internal debate and not ordering one in the one month ordering window, I'm about to make a downpayment on a PDN 2012 Music Man.

One minor 'problem': I cannot decide between a JP6 or a Y2D. They are both listed at the same price (I'm going te have to sell some stuff to finance this.. :( ), so there's no debate there. I really like the petrucci, but it's not my go to guitar. That position is taken by my AL's. I'm suspecting that the Y2D will be very good looking. And through the years I have gotten used to a 'fatter' neck than the one the JP has.. Have to make my mind up at some point.

So, fellow knuckleheads, feel free to chime in and share your thoughts! As always it's thoroughly appreciated! :D

Well if the JP is not your go to guitar than get the Y2D! I think it will be one of the most amazing looking pieces ever created! There will be a nice figured maple top and you have more versatility with the Y2D.

Sounds to me like you have already made your mind up!

I think the Y2D would be awesome, the flamed top would be stunning and you already prefer the neck. Either way I dont think you will go wrong judging from the pictures we have seen so far!

Haha, I do believe so yes. Leaning more and more towards the Y2D..

But I have to sell 1 or 2 guitars to fund this purchase, and that's a not a pleasant task. My AL's aren't going anywhere, that's for sure. If I get a Y2D, that will be the replacement for the Reflex. So Reflex will probably be sold. Remain the standard Morse and the JP Dargie... Choices, choices..

The reflex is my ultimate favourite MM guitar and I have owned them all apart from a standard morse and the BFR JP's. For me I dont think the Y2D has the versatility of the reflex, but clearly I am in the minority.

Do you think that the Y2D might cover similar ground to the Roasted AL HH you already have, both have mahogany bodies and roasted maple necks, not sure about the tonal difference between the ebony fingerboard and the Pau Ferro though.

Guitars end up becoming an extension of ourselves in a lot of ways and I think when you find what works with you go for it, there is no right or wrong just what you like.

I agree that the Reflex is probably more versatile than a Y2D, but I found that I don't really use that versatility. Other than that it is a great guitar, but not meant for me I think.

The preference you have for the Reflex, I have for the AL. The roasted AL being my absolute favourite. Judging the tones that I get from my standard Morse, the Y2D will be different enough compared to my roasted AL. Pickups are very different and there's a singlecoil included.

2 Morses is a bit redundant I think, so it's gonna be the Reflex and the standard Morse on the chopping block (for now)...

I think I´ll go with a Y2D.

The finish on this one is simply stunning, and it appeals to my wife more than the Darklord, so I had a "green light" to go for it xD

If the finish is the only reason, you can get the figured maple top on the PDN JP as well if you get the BFR-version :)
Just a quick note.

You know, I thought of that but the price of a JP BFR PDN is way higher than the price of a Y2D PDN. + finish/maple top is not the only reason.
