...as I am about to purchase my FIRST non EBMM bass in over 5 years. I still love my BALLS, but wanted to have a backup with a little different look and sound.

Am I wrong to feel this way, or just crazy?

You know John, If you are cheating on your wife, then she should be able to cheat on you....ask her for me if she would be interested in coming to the west coast. I will need to see a few photos........... of your basses..... can you say "division of assets"???

It's funny, because I used my last brand of basses for almost 20 years and added a Music Man bass so I could have something a little different in looks and sound and then I got hooked on Music Man basses and haven't looked back. They are all that I sue now and my other ones basically just stay in the cases now.

I am fortunate enough to have many nice basses and sometimes I feel a little guilty that I don't pay as much attention to some that they probably deserve. But, in the end I just play what I like and don't feel too bad about it. Right now, my main basses that get the most playing time don't happen to be EBMM's, but I do pick them up often and like them a lot too.

My backup to my EBMM is another EBMM.

If that doesn't work, I have a SBMM.

So you're out of the club.

I would be going to the doc and get my ears tested anytime I thought the Balls didn't sound like the love of my life.

JLepre I've read about you doing this with some interest recently.

My own experience has been going to a couple of jam sessions and not taken a bass recently so having to borrow someone else's. It was OK but I have to say when I got back home and picked up my Stingray Classic, it felt like it fitted me perfectly.........played exactly how I wanted and effortlessly. The one I borrowed simply didn't - I had to adjust my playing to fit it - in fact I couldn't actually play some of what I play on it.

Funny thing is the bass I borrowed is of a type that a lot of people have said in the past - oh you should get one - just shows what other people know eh (and some of them were even GUITARISTS  )

If I was getting a back up it'd be a used MM or a new SBMM for sure.

Yeah you're right T Bone (although my wife probably doesn't agree with your view!!) - just making JLepre feel even worse.

I've heard it said that quite a number of people on this forum have instruments from...........other manufacturers - heaven forbid!

The main reason that I DIDN'T go with another EBMM or SBMM was for the variety. My SR5 will always be my #1 go to bass, but it's nice to have something different. Plus it only cost me $300, so I can bring it to some of the dive bars without fear.

Yeah... I've got guitars and basses from a bunch of manufacturers. I mean if you want a jazz box carved top with a floating pickup, you're not gonna get it from EBMM. On the other hand if you want a kickass versatile bass with an active EQ, you probably won't go looking at G##$on.
