Hi folks!

I've been using the search tool but i don´find how to clean the neck of my brand new JP6. Iknow about murphy oil soap and wax, but i want to know how to clean it every day properly.

I wonder if you can use the Ernie ball wonderwipes instrument polish on the back of the neck, or may be baby wipes... these to clean asses of babies, you know... Dodot? . Some friends of mine uses it on theyr guitars.

Thanks!!!

Hi, and welcome!

Normally I use the EB fretboard conditioner wonderwipes for neck maintenance every onde in a while. Don't know about the instrument polish wipes, but I wouldn't use them on an unfinished neck. Certainly wouldn't use baby wipes on an unfinished neck!

But do you really need to clean it every day?

First - I always play with clean hands....

Whenever I am finished playing, or at the end of set, I take a clean, untreated cloth (the Ernie Ball Microfiber clothes are great) and wipe/buff off the back of the neck, and clean the strings with either Wonder Wipes or FingerEase (sprayed on a cloth, not on the fingerboard).

At string changes I use WonderWipes fretboard conditioner lightly on the fingerboard and neck, and remove it quickly with a fresh dry cloth.

I would not use BabyWipes on a guitar, ever...

Thats what i do... And i always wash my hands before playing. but i have the senstion that use only a clean cloth is not enought... Surely i am wrong. I only ask for what can i use often to clean the back of the neck.

Can i use the fretboard conditioner wipes for the back of the neck too?

Yes you can but personally I wound't get it too wet or let it sit on the neck long at all.

Those necks are treat with Birchwood-Casey Gunstock Oil and then polished out with Birchwood-Casey Gunstock Wax. Cleaning it with Murphys Oil Soap once or twice a year then doing the Birchwood Casey products really does a good job keeping the neck clean and protected from the elements and soil, particularly like I said, clean hands and wipe off with an UNtreated cloth after playing...

Imo, cleaning the back of the neck every day is overkill. As mentioned, the necks are finished with oil/wax which you may want to apply once in a while (I do mine every few years).

If you really want clarification on this, please contact the customer service folks directly and see what they say.

Less cleaning.....More playing = Rock Star ! Wipe the back of the neck with a plain cloth after playing like they are telling you. The only time you should be cleaning the neck is when it starts to feel FUZZY. Then there is a video done by Drew @ MusicMan that explains how to clean and treat the back of the neck w/ Birchwood Oil & Wax. If you are wanting to clean the neck everyday. Then maybe this kind of guitar is not for you. Maybe a Painted JP is more your style. Good Luck !

Clean guitar means it's not a player. You KNOW the dirty ones are broken in.

I´ve been playing other brand toys for about 15 years and this is my first true guitar, so i want it to last forever!!!

Thank for advices... i will only use a dry, clean, untrated cloth!!! and once a year the tratement of the video on youtube.

thanks again! and pardon my English!

I just do a quick wipe of the neck and body with a dry untreated microfiber cloth before putting the guitar away -- takes just a few seconds. I do this with my EBMMs and my acoustics as well.

that's what I was doing, But I had doubts if I could optimize daily cleaning. But it seems to be sufficient ^^

Interesting what you say about baby wipes. Johnsons Baby Oil is used by a guitar builder buddy of mine on rosewood - fantastic results.

At last!!! Someone who has heard the same. I was beginning to think I was crazy :p
