Hey!

I'm curious, did EBMM change the color of the Island Burst finish?
I was just browsing through GC's platinum vault and came across two different Island Burst finishes that looks completely different.

#1.

#2.

For comparison, here's Cherry Burst too.

I believe #2 is the newer Island Burst. I know that different lighting can make a difference but THIS HUGE difference? #1 looks like it has black/dark edges while #2 looks more like it only has a more "redish" edge(kinda like Cherry Burst).

Not that it's a huge deal, just interested :)
Sorry if this has been posted before!

my guess is that the employee that built the second "island burst" into the guitar center system just made a mistake. That looks a lot more like Cherry Burst.

Someone knows. Someone always knows but they're just not telling yet.

Lol ^^

Ditto, that looks like Cherry burst to me.

That was my guess too, but then I saw that there are many more of the same colors of Island Burst added into their system. And also, when comparing to the Cherry Burst, this "new" Island Burst looks more orange than red, while Cherry Burst looks more red than orange. I've added Cherry Burst into the first post too so you can compare that!

I encountered a guitar that looked just like #2 at GC in Boston last week (and was listed as Island Burst). It was a distinct color from the two Cherry Burst BFR JP's that they had there. I'm not sure if it is Island Burst, but it definitely was not what they were classifying as Cherry Burst.

Cheers for confirming! That's what I thought. Really weird!
IMO the #2 is almost more like Honey Burst that the PDN's are coming with

Originally on the Koa JP we used a color very similar to a tobacco burst. We did some BFRs with a maple top (rather than Koa) for GC in that color and we called it Island Burst. We then decided to change the color of the Koa to something more similar to Honey Burst and we kept the "Island Burst" moniker. We did another run of those guitar for GC and this is what you are seeing.

Oh, wow, thanks a lot A.J.! :D
So let me see if I got this straight...

JP Koa: "Tobacco Burst":ish
GC JP BFR Island Burst: Same as above, but called "Island Burst"

JP Koa(new): "Honey Burst":ish but called "Island Burst"
GC JP BFR Island Burst(new): Same as above

Was that about right?
When did you change to the new Koa/BFR Island Bursts? Just so we know that all Koa's and BFR Island Bursts before a certain date is in fact more Tobacco Burst:ish while all Koa's and BFR Island Bursts after that certain date is in fact more Honey Burst:ish? :)
