This is going to make it hard to hold on to my wallet. Here's a few questions that haven't been clarified yet:

1. Will the Sabre come with a bullet or the standard MM truss rod?
2. Will the Sabre come with a 2-band EQ?

PS. For those interested, here's what Pete shared with me on the specs of the Sabre.

Sabre specs:

-11" Radius
-Compensated Nut
-21 High Profile, Wide Frets (like the regular Stingray)
-2 Alnico Humbuckers
-Silent Circuit

Switch Configuration (all combinations are in parallel):
1-Coils 1 & 2
2-Coils 1, 2 & 3
3-Coils 1, 2, 3 & 4
4-Coil 3
5-Coils 3 & 4

I just happened to click on Bass Central's page on TB and saw this announcement - wow - a Sabre? Me and 3 others around here have been bugging BP about a Sabre re-issue for years! The answer was always no - wouldn't sell - it was discontinued because it didn't sell, etc. The big question - is this only going to be avaialable as the Tony Levin model - or - since they are re-tooling up for it, will they make a "Classic" version available in all colors, etc? Endless GAS....

Could anyone explain to me, who just started bass 5 years ago, what the big deal about Sabres are/was?
And is it just me or when I hear the word Sabre, I don't think of cutting thru the mix, I think of Dunder Mifflin's new owner. Guess I just don't get it, but would love to have the history explained to me.

I love how its even just a little after thought on the PDN ad too. All "oh yeah, did we mention, we're going to bring back one of the funkiest instruments of all time too?! Cuz we are!"

It's not easy to explain, Gary. There are plenty of people who played Sabres, but I can't think of anyone famous who used one all the time. They didn't make huge numbers of them so they can be hard to find and sometimes go for fairly high prices, so maybe the scarcity made for more interest.
I personally like the Sabre because it was my first MM bass, and I really like the tones you can get from 2 pickup basses.

So I'm getting one with a rosewood board!
