There was a goldtop Axis Tribute in the GC used inventory but it was there only briefly because it's now here with me. I've always been attracted to the great flame and quilt tops on the Axises but I also like things that you don't encounter all that often. I think that the goldtop finish fits the bill quite well in that regard. I just opened the case briefly to check it out, it's a very neat look and will provide a nice change of pace for when I don't want the bling of a flame top. After all, gold is known for not being blingy, right? GC shipped it without the tremolo bar, and for the second time in three purchases all of the tools, keys and what not were floating around loosely in the case. Thankfully there hasn't been any damage because of that. All in all, another happy NGD! Pics can't happen until I get home tonight but I definitely look forward to checking her out in more detail.

The older I get the more that the vintage finishes appeal to me, I'm certainly less into the mega quilt/flame tops these days. Looking forward to the pics!

Sorry man! That was a decent price and although it's the last thing I can afford at the moment, I couldn't refuse. Looks pretty sharp, too bad my camera battery died as soon as I turned on it. Recharging now...

Wait 'till yer my age - then your favourite will be solid black lol.

I love solid gold too - always did look good on a Les Paul, and sure as heck looks nice on an axis.

I'm liking the guitar a lot, it loooks, plays and sounds great. But I'm getting a "thunk" sound out of what I think is the right side knife edge when I depress the trem way down. Like it's shfting in the slot of the post of something. I'll spend more time tonight trying to figure out what is causing the issue but in the meantime wanted to ask if anyone here has any ideas why that might be happening.

@tonelover: That definitely should not be happening. These were some of the very first guitars with the new Floyd trem and posts... Could be an issue with that. I tested mine by divebombing all the way down and no issue/thunk on return. If you determine that it's messed up, contact A.J. in Customer Service to find out what to do next.
