Started playing at 14... 1982, wanted to learn Pinball Wizard but a guitar mentor guy I knew told me that wasn't going to happen for a while and suggested Squeeze Box, basic version is 3 chords all the way through G D and C, I believe. I was playing Pinball Wizard from start to finish about 2 years later ;)

Started with classical guitar, so the first song must have been some children's song from the lesson book.

Considering the period I started to play electric guitar it probably was some Nirvana song, after that a lot of Metallica..

When learning . C to G7 There was an old man called Michael Finnigan - then introduced the Dmin chord and played The Grand Old Duke of York, he had 10,000 men.

The first song I performed was whilst in School, "Ride a White Swan" T rex I think I also did "My Coo ca joo" - Alvin Stardust.

Played Oh Well, Stairway to Heaven and Heart of Gold solo on acoustic. Jeez how did I remember that when I find it difficult to remember what I did Yesterday. !!!

I think it was Crosstown Traffic. Definitely took me a while to master back then, still one of my favourite songs though :)

I think the first guitar riff I learned was "Shock Me" my Kiss. I didn't even play guitar back then as I was still playing drums at the time - maybe when I was 13 or 14. When I started officially playing guitar when I was 16 I think the first song was "Tie Your Mother Down" by Queen.

The first guitar solo I learned a few months later was "You Shook Me All Night Long". I remember learning that whole album and enjoying jamming through that for quite a while. Good 4 chord rock for a beginner!! :)

Good times.

First song...

I remember receiving my very first guitar a '56 LP Jr and trying to figure it out and my uncle taught me how to play tie your mother down by Queen...
Can still play it too :)

Then I was invited many years later to sit in with an all-star band and we played a melody of doors,ZZ top and hank Williams jr and had to learn the songs 5 minutes prior to going on stage because the singer wasn't sure what key he wanted to or was going to be able to sing in.

I used to put the Scorpions "Blackout" record on and make horrible noises come out of my guitar, which sounded good at the time.

Learned a bunch of easy riffs like Smoke on the water, and eventually learned Stairway all the way through. It was the first guitar solo I learned and I forced my brother switch to rhythm guitar :)

"Inside Looking Out" by Grand Funk Railroad. From their live album. On a parlor acoustic guitar with nylon strings, through a microphone to a cassette player that I turned way up so as to get distortion and feedback.

I played that thing to death. My poor parents!

Dont remember the first song but remember the first lesson. Was about 8 and my mom put her nylon string guitar in my hand and took me to a place in the SFV called Every Woman's Village. What's up with that!
