Here's JP's response on JP13. Found on his Facebook. :)

"It's amazing to see all the positive comments about the JP13. I really appreciate the support and enthusiasm. Of course I love and use all of the sig JP Music Man models we've created over the years but I have to say that the 13 is my favorite of all! It just has that "magic" thing about it. The new DiMarzio pickups, the preamp and boost, the 17" radius rosewood fretboard, the beautiful silver finish and of course the perfect neck and body design make it the ultimate guitar. I spent all day writing with the DT guys yesterday and the 13 sounded so incredible and felt so amazing that the riffs were flying out of the guitar with such ease and intensity that was so inspiring and so satisfying! Thank you Sterling for standing by the commitment you made 13 years ago which was to make tools for artists, and to not stop until we get it perfect!"

Very cool... I'm really excited to try one out. Since the boost would be before the gain stage, I'm interested to see how it interacts with the distortion.

I'm not usually big on silver, but it looks really sharp on that shape... makes it look pointier. lol

My only gripe is that it's just impossible to keep up with all these things because I want them all... ALL OF THEM!!! BWAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA. LOL I'm a JP guitar junkie. lol

I was under the impression that the 11 and 12 had the same profile neck where the back shape was concerned, and the extra slim came from the flatter 20" radius. Either way, this one has the rounder 17" radius and will not have the same extra slim feel unless the back of the neck has been changed (assuming my understanding was correct.) Having played every JP model extensively, the back of the X, XI, XII, and BFR necks all feel the same, with the radius being the difference. So, I'm guessing this one will feel like the X and regular BFR/regular JP.

I'm soo glad the 17" is back because my fingers are so short, and the flat radius really made it hard for me to do bends. Not 20% harder or even 10% harder... and it is even something I'd eventually get used to when I played the 11 and 12. Just enough to make me smile that the 17" is back on the 13. Especially with the stainless frets.

The most interesting thing about the Anniversary Series as a timestamp on JP's playing is how much he changes his preferences of the small things. I always thought I was weird that I would go through phases where my strap felt better longer, and then shorter, etc. Or, that I'd like the Red picks better for a while, then hate them compared to the black for a while. lol His changes in string gauge, fretboard radius, fretboard material, etc. make me feel more normal. lol

It reminds me of this axe Jp used to always play. If I could own one of his personal guitars, this would be it!

I lusted after that guitar!!! The new one looks stellar as well... and I was right: the 12th fret shields were photoshopped out as a clever marketing ploy by the good people at EBMM!

Dare I say that BP's quick snapshots show off the sparkles in the paint much better than the studio shots... a GREAT look!

Really looking forward to more info on JP's new pickups... I never let my soldering iron get cold and I'm a huge DiMarzio fan... smells like hot burning trouble ;-)

Cheers

I'm confused. Everyone keeps saying "glad the 17" radius is back"...but the original BFR and standard models had a 15" radius (and obviously the XI and XII have 20"). I'll be honest, I never actually measured it on my BFR or standard JP, but I assume it was 15" since that's what the Music Man site has listed. Can we safely assume that this is a new mid-ground between the two and not a return to the 15" radius?

You are correct... an error on my part. It also brings up another speculative and highly pulled out of the air kind of question about the Majesty... I wonder if it will have a dun dun dun.... compound radius? LOL
