I remember posting a thread back in november of 2010 about me purchasing my very first guitar. The JPX! It's been a wonderful experience so far and I cant wait to see what unfolds within the next 3 years! I'm going to post some videos of me from when I first started playing to where I am now.

I'm sorry John Petrucci... I'm soo sorry - YouTube

This first video is the very, very first time i had ever recorded myself playing its back from 2008 and the guitar isn't even mine. My GF (now fiancé) let me barrow hers from time to time so I don't really consider this time period when I actually started as I only fiddled with it here and there. I didn't actively practice guitar until I purchased the JPX.

Dude thats fantastic to say how long you have been playing! Really tight, even at 70%

One thing though, don't ignore your pinky. It's your friend!

PS Your first guitar was a JPX? :O

It sure was! I know I always get feedback about my pinky but, truth is I don't really feel hindered from not using it as much. I do use it when absolutely necessary. I love my JPX to death I just play it less due to not wanting to put any battle scars on her. I like her mint ;)

Wow, time does fly eh? Good for you man, you've made nice progress. I'd love to have recordings of my first 3 years playing. Lol, on second thought, maybe not.

Keep it up broseph!

Well done Devin, looks like the practice paid off, keep it up lad!

If you don't mind I will give you some advice. Don't ever let life, family, career, etc sidetrack you from playing and improving. Always set some time aside to follow your passion and keep at least one guitar no matter how tough times are. It's easy to let it slip and before you know it 20 years has passed by and you have to re-learn. It's not so easy second time around, trust me!

Thank you! I really try to give myself at least a good hour or two a day to practice. My wife is pretty understanding as she knows that guitar is my one and only true passion in life. I find myself getting burned out from time to time and take a solid week off of practicing but, when I get that itch and pick up the guitar again it's like I never missed a beat. Sometimes I feel like I play much better after taking a little break here and there. It makes it more exciting to practice again too after being away from it so long.

I've been REALLY driving the wife crazy trying to get this new solo down. When I'm not actually practicing it I find myself watching videos of myself playing it over and over again, trying to analyze my technique and see where I can make improvements. Also, in all honestly, it's a pretty badass feeling seeing myself play content I never thought I'd be able to.
