I have a 2000 vanilla SR 4H and a 2011 Bongo 4HH and need to know what the pickups are, magnet wise.

Do I get that correctly that the SR has a ceramic magnet bar on the bottom? If so is that a regular size bar like in a guitar humbucker so that I can try Alnico on my own?

The Bongo is neodymium, right? Are those magnetic rods? (aka no bar magnet on the bottom)

Are these compatible impedance wise? Can I run a Bongo pickup through the SR electronics?

Thanks!

I have a 2006 SR4 H LE black with gold hardware rosewood neck i bought new , but mine sounds nothing like the sub i have that has the alnico pup . Ive always thought that year the SR4 came out with a ceramic

I guess it's because SUB and LE SR4 are pretty incomparable.

A USA SUB 4 is a StingRay 4H 2-band. The only possible tonal
difference is the poplar body. The [current] imported SUB is a
whole nuther tale. So, it very much matters what "SUB" fevitz
is writing about .....

Yes , your exactly right ! the one i have is the "sterling sub 5" i bought it new about 18 months ago and paid $440 AU for it . It has the alnico p.up and came with a gig bag . The 2006 LE i have has a ceramic p,up , also bought new in 2007 . My point that the OP misinterpreted was that "stingrays" in 2006 only came out with ceramic , not alnico p,ups

Well indonesian SBMM and USA EBMM should sound completely different! :) And SR4 was alnico only since the beginning. So I doubt your SR4 utilizes ceramics.

Stingray Ceramic Pickups - TalkBass Forums

Just for the record , and my SR4 does have a ceramic pickup .

If you mean the topic starter he talks about SR 5 (!) Ofcource there is plenty of ceramic SR(5!), but not SR4. Go check official MM schematics diagrams for SR4

And you know. When MM made their ceramic SR5 - alot of ppl liked it. So they made.... A Sterling! :)

Assuming the (SR4) has an alnico p,up , then why does it sound growly , with mids and a bit toppy , compared to the sterling sub alnico which is warm , and full sounding ? Shouldnt they sound similar ? These are totally different sounding basses . OK apart from wood , the price may have something to do with it SR4 cost me $3000 Sub cost me $440 ,

Well you know... I'm not sure but I guess premium segment bass has different electronics compared to the budget indonesian replica. And the wood.... And... And everything!) That is completely different bass that just looks like SR. These basses can't "sound similar" like you are saying.)

There is no ceramics SR4. Really.
