I had a set of Billy Sheehan 110-43 rounds laying around that I decided to put on my 92 Stingray with a Birdseye maple neck. Obviously the neck needed a little tweeking. They have been on there for about two months with no issues so far.

Could any damage or warping come to the neck over a long period of time running a heavier than stock gauge of strings on this neck? Normally I would not be concerned, but this is one of those beautiful 90's oiled necks that seems a little more sensitive to changes than my newer Ray.

Any opinions?

110-43 is normal on the treble side and heavier than
normal on the bass side. This is prolly better for the
neck than most typical string sets. Typical sets have
a lot more tension [about +30%] on the treble side.
The 110-43 set would [at least partially] redress this
[typical] imbalance across the neck.

It'll be fine. I've been building "balanced tension" sets since the 90's, before they were a fad. Heavy on the bass, light on the treble. The set on my SR5 now is .039-.136

My gripe with very strings is that they usually don't have a lot of output so they drown in a live band mix. Unless you are a funk thumper with tons of compression to back it up.

Flat EQ .... and COBALTS !!!!!

I'm playing Cobalts for a Latin percussion group
and I don't hafta crank it at all. High output is
NOT gonna get you heard. Like I said, I do NOT
crank it ... I play thru a small [dual 6"] combo,
but the Cobalt advantage is not about increased
decibels, it's about increased spectrum.

Don't know abut the rest of the knuggleheads,
but I do NOT hear you better if you crank it to
be heard. I hear you not at all, cuz I just leave.
