Hi,

I want to install a coil tap (push pull pot) in my other JP70 but want to try this with the stock PU's, to see how they sound when split.
The problem is I need to find out what the color codes are.
Is there a way to figure it out?
The color on the PUs are: black, white, red, blue and then there is the bare wire.
I looked at the three way PU selector switch and the blue wire of the neck PU is connected to it and from the bridge PU it's the red wire that is connected to the PU selector. Then on both PUs the black and white are just connected together.
The neck PUs red and bare go to ground and the bridge PUs blue and bare go to ground.

Can I somehow determine the color coding from this?
I looked at wiring diagrams, but it's rather confusing.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Lars

Every manufacturer uses different color codes, so check the manufacturer's website. If you don't who made them, send an email to SBMM.

Thanks!
I did that, and Brian said he will get back to me after NAMM.
But since I want to re-wire my guitar now, I wanted to check if I can somehow figure this out myself...

Easy way to do it is to ground the south coils. Where the white/black wires are soldered together (where the two coils meet one another), run a wire from there to your push/pull pot, so it's connected to ground when you pull the pot.

You can quickly test this out to see if you like it by running a wire, alligator clip, etc. before you wire it up with the push/pull pot.

I'm not sure if I fully understand what you are saying?
Would I only have to connect the black and white to the tone pot ground for the HB to be split?
How do I know which coil it splits to?
I am also confused about North/South coil. Is North coil always the oil closer to the neck or is it always the coil without the screws?
On this particular guitar the outer coils are the ones with the screws.

Yes, connect the black & white wires to ground (any ground- back of a pot, etc.) and you'll split them. If you like how that sounds, you can wire them up to a push/pull pot.
