Now I got this SO long ago, I've had it for months now but I just never had set the time aside to write up a NGD/Take pictures of it. Honeymoon period has long since passed and I absolutely love this thing, more on that after the pictures!
Also hats off to JLocrian for the absolutely flawless trade! Great guy to deal with! I had a JPXI-7 and he had a JPX7, the rest is history
Hope you all enjoy the Pr0n
The finish on this thing is so ....ing brilliant that I can hardly stop looking at it and playing the damn thing over some of my other guitars. I was initially supposed to grab a JPX7 instead of a JP12 earlier last year, but had to jump on the 12 because DAT DEAL  either way it was a cool experience owning each iteration of the anniversary models. But as I expected, the JPX is the one for me! I’ve wanted this ever since seeing John’s 10th Anniversary “Making of” video on Youtube. It’s stupidly hard to catch the Barolo/Purple Sparkle on this thing, it looks Stealth Black 90% of the time in my room as I almost always have the blinds shut and a very soft lamp light going on. But with the proper lighting the thing really shines. I actually really like it with the standard chrome Liquifire/Crunchlab because it sort of balances out the fact that there is still some white/silver/chrome on the guitar, but that’s just my OCD speaking
Tonally this thing is so diverse that I could honestly live with just this guitar and be more than satisfied with the amount of tones I can get out of it! Thank God that’s not the case though  Alright, so for those that don’t know it’s a Chambered Alder Body with a Mahogany Tone Block, Maple Top, and a Mahogany Neck. So it’s incredibly similar to the JPXI in that regard, the only difference being the finish/neck radius/non-chambered Alder, and my “issue” with the JPXI was that leads and the top end felt a bit compressed and didn’t pop as much as this. The chambering I guess fixes that problem completely because this thing absolutely SINGS for leads and cleans. It really has this 3 Dimensional characteristic that I’ve yet to find in a solid body guitar besides this one! It also has a 5 way switch and Piezo, so it really does have a lovely selection to pick from 1: Bridge, 2: B&N Inner Coils, 3: B&N Together, 4: B&N Outer Coils, 5: Neck. The 2nd and 4th position sound so spanky and shimmery, I’ve started using that with high-gain rhythms for a bit of tonal variety and it’s very fitting with it. The Crunchlab actually works nicely with this wood combination, I had thought about trying an Illuminator Bridge Pickup but the wiring is a hassle in this thing and I’m more than satisfied with the stock pickups! The Piezo is also excellent as always with this model, I don’t hear a major difference in the piezo, I don’t think the wood combo affects the Piezo component that much at all on these guitars if you EQ them the same that is.
As for the other features, it’s got 24 Stainless Steel Frets which feel just amazing! They feel glass-like to the touch and really let you just soar when you’re playing. This has a Tremol-no installed, but I may just remove it and either keep it full floating or block it off with wood. The Tremol-no has been a bit fidgety when I down tune to Drop D/Drop A causing the other strings to go sharp, not just on this guitar either. On all of the ones I’ve recently had with Tremol-no’s. So I think some double sided tape and wood is the way to go!
Other than that I honestly wouldn’t change a thing, even the painted neck feels amazing I honestly don’t even have the desire to satin-ize it to get that smooth feeling. The type of lacquer they use on these has a way of not sticking when you’re playing.
Thanks for checking it out! I have one more NGD, and trust me I’ve saved the best for last!
