I finally understand the hoopla about the Luke 3!!!

For all the Lukes I've played, the V-shape is never a sharp V-shape,it's rounded but it all makes sense concerning how you hold the guitar and how the fingers move along the fretboard.

Am I the only one that has a problem with the position of the 5 way switch on the LIII? It's more like ''under'' the volume pot instead of ''next to''... Sorry, I'm just not happy with that!
Soundwise and playabillity is awsome... But just because of the position of the switch I prefer my PDN 2012 True Gold even more...

I have to say that after having owned two LIII's with rosewood necks the roasted maple is MUCH nicer in my opinion. My new Bodhi blue is leaps and bounds above my Olive Gold or Black rosewood neck ones (that's not to say that they weren't completely amazing, just not really as good a fit for me I guess!).

Agreed, I have never got on with the feel and sound of the full rosewood necks. Roasted maple on the other hand is exquisite and it would seem that Mr Lukather agrees as he ditched the Rosie necks very early on if you recall.

My Luke II has more of a pronounced V than the Luke III with rosewood neck I tried out this weekend. I liked it but reminded me more of a Silo shape.

I am praying and patiently waiting for another round of Luke BFR PDN's with a quilted maple top and honey roasted, cherry burst finish or my absolute favorite, that trans gold finish. P L E A S E!! Tempted to buy a JP and put transitions in it as well but I love the 3 pup config of the Luke.

I just got a Luke III -- black HSS with all rosewood neck. Wow !! Best guitar I have ever owned in every way. Neck feel, pickups, unplugged tone, playability. All better by a wide margin even comparing to guitars at similar price range. The boost is a super handy feature too !! And the tone control knob is actually useable, in that the tone doesn't go to dull mud with a slight turn.

From the spec list, it seems they aren't making any more with the all rosewood neck
And there are only two color options now which are black and Bohdi Blue - which I don't care for as a color.
Would be nice to have those options again, as I want a second (and even a third) Luke III --

How consistent are the LIII guitars in tone from one unit to the next, all else being equal?
For example; Gibson Les Pauls all sound notably different from one guitar to the next, even if it is the exact same model. Maybe that is just a characteristic of mahogany and maple.
I think Fender guitars sound a lot more consistent from one to the next in the same model range, and I know they use Alder as a body wood option (like the L3).
Only asking because I haven't had a chance to pick up another L3 guitar. The Guitar Center I got mine at only had one left and I got that one. Thinking of getting some more off eBay if I need to, just to get the rosewood neck and maybe score one or two in different color options.

I took my L3 a couple times to a local jam night gathering ( acoustic/electric singer songwriter type stuff ). With virtually no effort, my L3 just mixed so well with the other acoustic guitars when playing back up lead. The pickup tones are all awesome -- like you can't find a "wrong" sound. I like how the guitar has a smooth and appropriate low end but not with overly bass heavy or muddy tones or overly harsh upper midrange tones that that have to be filtered out, like I have had to deal with on my other guitars. Between five pickup selections, a smooth and useable tone knob, and nice boost, and a predictable volume knob, it's so easy to get a wide variety of tones off a single amp/pedal/modeler setup.

Well, that's my introductory rave about this guitar !!!
