Differences between an Albert Lee SSS and an Albert Lee MM90

Have I mentioned how I love the Albert Lee model? Allthough I told myself to refrain from guitar purchases for a while, I can't stop thinking about adding another AL to the collection. Since I already have an HH and a MM90, in my opinion the logical step would be an AL SSS. Any knuckleheads that own both want to share their experience? Does the AL SSS complement an AL MM90, or are they fishing in the same pond?

If anyone wants to share some pics of their AL SSS, yes please. Still undecided about which finish I would like. Black and white I already have

Well I have both the MM90 and the SSS. However both guitars use different wood in their construction so it's a difficult comparison to make. I love the SSS and it's my favourite between the two. The MM90's do have a bit more "poke" and they clean up nicely when you roll off the volume. The MM90's have the same "cluck and quack!"in postions 2 & 3. The one thing I don't like about the MM90's is the"real estate" they take up on the guitar - they get in the way sometimes.

I don't have a HH AL but the one I played (in front of some of the blokes from Ernie Ball USA who were visiting Knighton Guitars, UK) and was really impressed with it.

How come your AL HH has a BFR inlay? I didn't know they had made a run. Great axe, I have one in some kind of pale red color and it's just an incredible instrument.

Looks like it could be the roasted maple black sugar run they did. I think that run might of had that logo

Nice combination, I have an AL MM90 White and the exact same AL HH.

Yes, it was part of the Black Sugar Roasted neck run, love that guitar. I don't have an AL SSS, sorry can't help you with that.

Here's what my Albert Lee looked like before modifications.
The BFR Pinkburst has an ash body, a mahogany tone block, and a maple top. They are beautiful.

It is indeed the 2010 limited edition: Black Sugar finish, finished roasted maple neck and ebony fretboard with BFR inlay. And it is awesome!

@Tollie: that bfr AL is pretty sweet! That would do just fine! (without the modifications, which I like but not for me).

My Al SSS is the best Strat I own. I dropped some D Allen '54s in it, sounds like a classic Strat, but with the playability and quality of an EBMM. I always get compliments on the tone and looks at gigs. I've been a EBMM player for 20 years, kicking myself for not getting an Al SSS sooner.
