Hornet's Nest

I'm swatting the proverbial hornet's nest here and getting the Silo guys all fired up. I recently bought a mint Silo Special(HSS) for a pretty good price. I'm not very fond of the stock hummbucker(vintage PAF). I'm really used to the Axis pups. That being said, I've done a bunch of research on various pups to try & emulate the Axis sound. So far, I'm sold on either the Tone Zone bridge & Air Norton neck, or the Suhr DSH+ and Cruiser neck combo. Any advice? Possibly AT-1 bridge also.Thanks Russ, for all of your help.......

hmmmmm...I'm thinking that you already have a few guitars with the Axis sound in your stable, yet I appreciate that you need something a little hotter than a vintage voiced pickup. So, perhaps something hotter that's a little different than the Axis pickups? It might be more fun to be able to reach for something a little out of your comfort zone. I recommend the DiMarzio Evolution.

I've done a HSS set up in a strat with a tone zone and it was very versatile... Don't remember what I had in the neck though. The Suhr set up in their pro series guitars sound nice as well

I bought a Tone Zone for my Silo because when I bought it it didn't have the stock pickups anymore. The Tone Zone is not bad but a little bit over the edge compared to my ASS. So I removed it.

Well I'm not a fan of dimarzios so I would recommend a Seymour Duncan jb it sounds amazing in my morse.
I know most of the guys around here are dimarzio fans so I guess maybe I'm stirring up the lot even more.

I'm with Tollie ... I like having different sounding pickups in different guitars, so each has it's own thing going on.

(I just rewired my Morse for the millionth time with Bill Lawrence L90s ... sounds awesome, and different from what's in my Y2D.)

Decision made!!! I ordered a new neck pup and a new bridge pup. I'll try & get a sound demo (before/after). I'm not gonna divulge which ones I ordered. I'll let my fellow forumites be the judges.

Well, this is probably a mute point since you already ordered pickups, but to get close to the Axis I think I would have went with a Seymour Duncan Custom Custom. As for the middle and neck, I think some Duncan YJM Furys would be cool. Just $.02 worth of buzz for the hornet's nest.

Hmmm. None of my humbuckers are noisy.That's strange. The cat's sort of out of the bag. I went with the Suhr DSH+ for the bridge, and the Air Norton for the neck. I'll give an update after the install. Thanks to all for your help.

Nice combination there. I guess you will not necessarily have the single coil tones in the neck anymore, but when I had a guitar with an Air Norton in the neck it was a really awesome tone.

I definitely want to see what you think of the DSH+...hope you will enjoy it as much as I did in my Y2D.
