I decided to not take my another one of my threads hostage so that is why I'm creating this one.

Has anyone tried gun lubricants at the bridge? I have some Rem Oil, some Hoppe's, and some graphite based gun lubes.

I think there should work just fine since they are meant to work on high impact, metal-on-metal parts.

My only concern is that it may mess up the chrome finish on the bridge or the poly coat on the guitar body.

Thanks for reading!

Well, imo it would work as a lubricant.Apply liberally and you shouldn't get any om the finish. I can think of nothing in it's make up that would cause a problem with the chrome.

I used to use a single drop of 3-n-1 oil on a cotton bud, then simply wiped on the posts. If you can smell it but not see it, it's enough. Nothing fancy required. It's simple metal on metal and pivoting on a very narrow edge, not rubbing and no appreciable linear motion. Pencil lead will do a great job too. Just keeping it clean will help (and too much lube makes that difficult, catching dust and dirt that normally wouldn't otherwise stick).

BTW, there is a lot of pressure at the contact point - the knife edges will dull a little with time and the chrome will chip. It's unavoidable but usually doesn't cause any problems.

I've used Rem Oil for years on several guitars to protect the bridges from rust/corrosion and as a lube for the trem posts. I've never had it mess up the finish on the bridges. Just don't go nuts with it and you should be fine.

I guess if you really wanted to split hairs, some type of pure oil (3n1) would be ideal since Rem Oil is technically an all-in-one/CLP type product made for cleaning & lubrication. Like I said though, I've used it for years just because I've always had plenty of it handy for cleaning guns.

Thanks again for all the feedback and suggestions. After using a bit more but sauce at the bridge posts, tuning stability improved quite a bit. I may try some of y'all's suggestions if I have any more issues.
