I play a beautiful Stingray 5, and am currently looking to purchase a new gig bag for it. I'm looking at a bag from Ritter (specifically, the Ritter RG4000-9-B/BMD Revolution). Trouble is, from what small pieces of info I've gathered on it, it can be quite a tight fit with some basses. With my Stingray 5 not being the smallest bass in my collection, I thought I'd ask if any of you fine people have any experience with Ritter bags and how well a Stingray 5 might fit in it.

Everyone will suggest you Mono gig bags here. In case that those are not on sale at my region I use Gator Commander.

This is not at all what I was expecting...

I thought this was a men's support group where we all convince each other that we are adequate.

Yeah, I was hoping the name of the thread would compell people to read it...:)

Monos are nice. A bit above my budget, currently, but I have plenty of organs to sell, so who knows.

Incidently, I got an email from Ritter saying that my Stingray would fit. I now wish I hadn't known about the Mono...

Do not save on bass protection. 150-200$ for the gig bag that will serve you +/- 10 years is not realy much. Instrument repairs will cost more :) When my Stingray fell from the stairs all the way down to the next floor I realized that spending some cash for a good gig bag was rly great idea.

Agreed 100% - if the OP was talking about a $200 bass, that would be one thing - but providing adequate protection for a $1k plus injstrument is a no-brainer, IMO... IME, anything less than a decent hybrid gig bag will eventually allow for some sort of damage to your instrument - I've damaged a few tuners, and picked up quite a few dings/dents that way... Last summer, I picked up an Incase DUB - as I was tiring of hauling around 2 hardshells 2-3 times per week... I'm happy to report that a year later, nearly 100 gigs - I'm happy that I made a sound decision... My basses aren't any worse for wear, and it's definitely made my life easier...

If something were to happen to the Incase, I would probably replace it with a Mono...

I own the Protec Contego gig bag and use it all the time with my SR5; it is a great bag that is very sturdy and fits the SR5 perfectly...

I agree that protection is worth spending money on. It was simply a matter of replacing my old semi-cheap gigbag with a similar one or carrying my bass in my bare hands, since I just didn't have the money for anything else.

The good news is, that thanks to an unforeseen but very welcome influx of cash yesterday, I can now order a Mono. Can't wait.

Thanks for all your excellent suggestions!

FWIW since this is a bag thread with useful comments
abound, I'll mention that I just picked up a great bag
by Gator. Couldn't tell you the model, but it's a rather
deluxe item at $150 and it even holds my Zeta, which
is over 4 ft stem to stern [and is the reason for buying
the bag in the 1st place], so it will hold just about ANY
solid body bass. It's long, but it's not really extra wide
for those semi-acoustics you might have on hand :-(

That pic appears to be the guitar version but yes
it does seem to be a version of the same model
range. BTW altho it's well padded and just a little
stiffer than bags that just go all floppy when not
full of ax, this bag is reasonably light weight. I'm
very happy with mine.

Inneressin feature of the bass version ... its carry
height in "backpack" mode is adjustable, at both
ends of the shoulder straps, so you get to choose
whether you wanna bang into door frames or you
wanna have it slapping your booty. Mebbe this is
also on the shorter version for guitars but I don't
know since I've never seen that version.

Maybe u are right. but the bass version looks the same. I use it and pretty satisfied. The only thing I'd removed it is raincoat that hiding in the neck area. Good idea actually but not really necessary - the bag is enough waterproof by itself.

Check out the protec contego. It's excellent and has a ton of storage to boot.
