So I emailed my dealer to see if there was any word on my NBPDN ASS. He replyed back stating there had been a prob. With the order, but it should be about a month.

Should I take that as he forgot to place my order? I'm kinda umm... Nervous/apprehensive now.

Gulp!

Might be smart to go over the order with him again so he got all the choices right.

Hey Guys!

I'm new here and haven't purchased an EBMM guitar.. yet. I'm a lefty player and i just saw sweet water has the neptune blue jp6's for pre-order. I play mostly metal and i can't decided which fretboard on this particular guitar would suit my style better, maple or rosewood. Any insight you experienced EBMM players have would be greatly appreciated! I've only got 5 days to take advantage of their solid financing plan, so this is my last ditch effort to get some info haha

It honestly comes down to what you like. I am not the biggest fan of maple fretboard because I dont like light colors. I know I am strange. Just check out some shots of the PDNs with the maple. I mean if you get one with maple you will get lots of love from people, but you need to get the one that you will like looking at and playing more.

Yeah, it's all down to preference. I prefer maple or ebony over rosewood any day (despite the fact that at least 3 of my axes have RW boards - no choice). For metal, I'd say maple board. But it really doesn't matter.

thanks for the replies!

the only experience i've had with maple fretboards, and its been awhile, was on a couple fender telecasters. Great guitars and smooth, but not so much hard rocking axes. So i wasn't sure how it translated. Im used to rosewood and ebony, and i particularly love the way ebony feels. Being lefty, I haven't had many chances to handle guitars i want to play, so I'm just not well versed with maple. I hear some people say its "sticky" because maple is typically finished as a fretboard?

But its interesting to see two different schools of thought, that fretboard wood matters or it doesn't. Im just checking because id hate to throw down $2200+ and think the maple is too "snappy." I do like the way the maple looks on the neptune blue editions, but since i haven't had the opportunity to handle JP6's or really push guitars with maple boards, I'm pretty much in the dark!

I often hear Ebony and maple being described as pretty similar woods, that in general have a little snappier sound than rosewood.

I don't think the fretboards are finished on MusicMan guitars, and if they are, it doesn't matter at all - you don't really touch the fretboard when you are playing.

I have an Axis with the maple fretboard, and have had no problems with it what so ever.

I would definitely go for the maple fretboard myself, as you may never be able to get a maple fretboard JP again.

Hope this helps :)

It does! Thanks for the advice man! That's kind of my rationale, too. The stars aligned this week for this guitar; longer pay-off time, new tone woods, and having an ok amount of money to back it up.. its just too good to pass up. I put it in my sweetwater cart today but figured I'd hold off for another day to mull it over haha

I'm gettin excited just thinking about gettin this thing

Hey, I just ordered a Neptune blue quilt BFR JP with maple board from Mike at sweetwater today as well! Happy us. :)

Nice dude! Happy us indeed! Haha. I prefer the body type of the BFR, but being left-handed i can't be TOO picky. The jp6 is still absolutely gorgeous. I couldn't pass up this opportunity. I sure hope they're done before october. I'd be so happy to have it sooner lol
