Hi,
This is my first post,so I'd like to say hello to one and all.I have the rare chance to buy a "New Old Stock" 2004 USA-made Music Man SUB 4-string bass with active electronics for a good price from a dealer.I was wondering if people thought I should go for it? I already have a 2004 Limited Edition Envy Green EBMM Stingray, but I'd always had an interest in buying a SUB years ago,but by the time I seriously thought about it,they'd been discontinued!
Thanks
Dave

I had one, great if you don't mind the industrial-strength spray finish and the slab body contours, otherwise, all american EBMM stingray goodness.

Agreed - and will add, that other than the SUB Sterling, they have the same 2 band preamp and pickups as a Stingray Classic... I own a SUB, SUB5, and SUB Sterling - and am keeping all three...

I own a SUB5 that I play regularly. Love it. Different tone to my Stingrays. Not sure what the going rate is for them over there, but John's advice is on the mark for the US. Good luck!!

Yeah, it would have a different tone when compared to your Stingrays - your SUB5 *should* have a 2 band preamp and ceramic pups - totally different from the 'Rays in your sigline...

Thanks for all the replies.Well,I went ahead and ordered the SUB.I paid £450 for it,which I felt was a good deal as a new EBMM StingRay 4-string 2EQ costs £1,099 over in the UK.Bearing in mind that this 2004 bass was factory fresh in the box until the seller opened the box yesterday to check the bass over for me,I was happy to pay that price for a NOS USA-made bass.I asked the seller how he came to have a 10 year old NOS SUB in his inventory, and he told me that he was selling it on behalf of a customer of his who was the retired owner of an early London-based internet seller called "Flying Pig Music" - maybe some of the UK based guys may remember them? This customer had a load of NOS gear left from when he closed the business down and the seller was selling off some of it for him.It begs the question - I wonder what other great NOS basses and guitars the guy has sitting in a warehouse somewhere?
