Hello, this is my first post and what better way to introduce myself to the Community than with a "NGD" post! I am looking forward to soaking up all the info that I can from this community. I recently purchased a JPXI and could not be happier! I'm in a cover band and have been playing mostly two American Deluxe Fender Strats for the past seven years. It was definitely time for a new guitar! Something that was more suited for the heavier stuff. I had narrowed my search down to a Ibanez Jem7VWH, a Suhr Modern Custom or the JPXI. I made the right choice. Here are a few pics!

I had narrowed my search down to a Ibanez Jem7VWH, a Suhr Modern Custom or the JPXI.

I had almost the same situation. I ended up finding a mint "full-loaded" JP6 in mystic dream finish (exactly the way I wanted it), and it won over the Jem 7VWH. I've already had a Jem a few years ago, so I chose something different.

As a side question, what did you do to have such shiny frets? Did you polish them, or it's just the light?

Before I joined the cover band that I am currently in, I spent years trying to form an original metal band. At that time I had two Jackson KV2's that I absolutely loved. I opted for a few strats when the cover band situation presented itself simply for the versatility but my fretting hand never forgot the Ebony fretboard or the spacing of the 1 11/16 nut. I have a couple friends that have Jems and I guess there was a little peer pressure to buy one. They did play good and with the HSH layout and 5 way switch had a lot of tones available. I loved the flat radius of the Jems as well. The Suhr I was looking at ordering was most definitely because of peer pressure. Every "hot" guitar player in the scene(Louisville, Ky) has or has a custom Suhr on the way. I played about 10 different Suhr Moderns and none really said "My Playability justifies the $4,000 price tag" but I did like the idea of the stainless steel frets. The JPXI takes the ebony and spacing from the Jacksons, the flat radius from the Jem and the stainless steel from the Suhr and puts it in a nice package for me... Anyway sorry for rambling on.

Must be the light making the frets shine. Thats day two, after I cleaned and oiled the fretboard and put new string on her. The frets are highly polished with a near mirror finish. I simply love the smoothness of them.

I never had the chance to play a Suhr, but indeed, it's a "cool" brand nowadays. I believe Guthrie Govan has something to do with this. I'd like to play one, even if only for curiosity.

The radius of the JP is pretty flat, but the Jem's is even flatter. My hands also feel the Jem neck wider than the JP, even if the specs numbers are the same. Maybe it's the neck profile, I couldn't figure it yet.

Anyway sorry for rambling on.

Hey that's a guitar forum, man. We all love to talk about guitars. :D

The JPXI and JP12 both have 20" radii... The Jem is right at 17" (430mm).

The JP, in this case, is flatter ( and PHatter :)).

Hey, I didn't know this.
I always thought the neck specs didn't change from the first JP models.

It's good to learn new things. :)

The Majesty has a 17" radius, so very similar to the Jem. The necks are definitely not as wide as the Jem though… which you pointed out. I have always said my JP neck feels thinner than my Jem neck…. not sure what the specs are for thickness, so I can only go on feel.

I forgot all about the trem... It's a wonderful design. I guess I relate to it better (feel wise) than a locking system due to the the fact I've been playing Strats for years! Once I got new strings on and leveled the trem it has been joy to play. Holds tune exceptionally well even through some heavy bar use. This guitar has proved to me that once setup properly, there really is not much need for a double locking trem other than for flabby string dive bombs. Back in my youthful metal days I just assumed that if you wanna stay in tune you had to have a double locking trem.
