I've been enjoying my newly rescued Bongo, and as a result, my non-MM second bass has been getting severely neglected. So it was with much excitement that I found a semi-local Craigslist post looking to trade a 90's Stingray for *exactly* the bass I had sitting in my closet. After trading a few e-mails, we met up yesterday and made the exchange...

My new bass is a 1993 or 94 Stingray (have to resubmit the serial number in the DOB thread - typed the wrong one in yesterday by mistake), trans teal, birdseye maple neck, rosewood board, with a Hipshot added. The best part so far is that is weighs exactly 9 pounds, which is pretty light compared to Stingray's I've had in the past. The teal is growing on me, and the only thing I need to do is re-string the G-string, which is currently wrapped around the wrong side of the post.

I thought I got super lucky with my bongo, which is well under 8 pounds, but this Stingray at 9 pounds has me convinced that the bass gods are smiling on me. Even though I haven't had a chance to plug it in yet, acoustically everything is loud and clear, so it should be a monster.

Now the hardest part of playing is deciding which awesome bass I'm going to pick up. I'm totally OK with that.

Since I know everybody really only wants to see pics, here you go...

What a great trade. It's so funny that you had what he was looking for. I like the trans teal. Very nice Stringray!

Congrats on the trade! I do love that teal color myself. Always been a fan of unique colors on basses though.

Congratulations, looks great - love Stingrays in Teal!!

Thanks guys! I was initially hesitant - the teal hasn't been my favorite color in the past. But this one had a nice deep hue to it, plus I've loved every mid 90's ray I've ever had, so it became a no brainer.

I lvoe the more unique colors too. My favorites are trans orange and trans green, but the teal is growing on me quickly - especially this one since it has a slightly deeper hue.

Nice... Looks like it's in great condition too!

Does the neck have the oil/wax finish? I suppose the change from the lacquered finish happened sometime around 92/93...

Great score!! And you got some mutes in the deal as well! I'm sure you're going to love it.

I had the same kind of deal fall out of the sky on to me a while back too. I had my Sterling up for sale or trade for the longest time with no worthwhile offers, then I get an email from a guy who had a mint Classic Stingray that he was willing to do a straight trade for (in a discontinued color no less). We met, we traded, we're both happy campers... but I still can't believe my luck on that one!

It is in fantastic shape - just a little belt buckle wear on the back. The neck feels almost like satin - more finish than the modern "unfinished" necks but not as much as waxier finish from earlier in the 90's.

Thanks! That's a great story, and those Classic Stingrays are fantastic. Nice deal!

Looks good.

Thanks! Really enjoying this own so far. Wondering if it deserves a set of flats...

Ok, so I've totally lost my mind. After playing the Stingray for a couple weeks, I got a little gassy and listed it for sale locally. Found a buyer within 1 day, and ended up turning it into a Sterling 5 HH, with a little cash left in my pocket. Definitely missed having a five string, and am enjoying the pickup combinations on this one. Now I'm trying to find another five string to go with it, so the Bongo is also up on the block. Sigh...wish I had the cash to keep them all!
