Hello Fellow MM Bass Players,

I have a MusicMan Sabre Bass that I purchased new in 1984.

Here's the bass' info:
Sabre Bass; Natural finish, maple fingerboard.
"Horseshoe" style bridge; serial number C004678.
The neck is Pre-EB (string tree between D and G, has patent numbers below MM gold lettering).
Three screw neck-plate (no serial number).
Lever switching electronics. Soapbar PUPs.

Having purchased this bass in March 1984, it could be one of the very early Ernie Ball basses but it has many Pre-EB parts. Is it considered a Pre-EB bass or a true EB bass and, what is its DOB?

Incidentally, the music store owner told me when I purchased the bass that "the bass was the first one manufactured by Ernie Ball in 1984." I have always considered that statement to be dubious but now I'm not sure.

Can anyone settle the mystery?

Thanks, Ozbon
