Question Bongo Battery Compartment - Has this ever been changed?

Hi there. I am offered a Bongo 5 HS pz.

The images of the backside show the three compartments (pz, electronics and battery). However, it is not the typical battery compartment that you push and that flips open. It is just a plate screwed on the body. The bass is as of 2004. At that time were the compartments for the batteries different? Or is it because of the pz?

No way it left the factory like that, in my opinion.

Nope. That is not original.

They never left the factory with anything other than side-by-side flip up battery compartments. I own two Bongos from that era (2003 and 2004) and both have the flips.

This is kinda DIY action, ...definitely!!!

Maybe owner has ruined an original factory battery compartments and than decided to do this DIY job?

Could be an excellent quality DIY, cuz it's
an easy job to do. And a HS-p is a terrific
find. Acoarst the DIY, even if a good job,
becomes an excuse to haggle price !

Haha. Yes, and I pulled the trigger on that beauty. She should arrive tomorrow. Never had a EBMM with a piezo in hands. I do not know if I will use it. However the HS configuration is something I've been keen on for a longer time. Did not like it so much in the Sterling 5, because I did not know what to do with Position 2 and 5 (1 being close to bridge). With a blend this could be different, and I so much like the latest recordings of John Myung.

I am a piezo fanatic [see sig].

Do not think of the piezo as another bridge PU
thaz even closer to the bridge than the "other"
bridge PU.

The mag PUs can be in bridge or neck locations
and will exhibit the tonal changes we associate
with those locations. But the piezo is listening
the whole string. Essentially it has NO location.
Or it's in ALL locations at once. Once you grasp
that idea, you'll get better at juggling all three
sources [brdg-nck-pz]. In case you have been
wondering, the piezo by itself is very useful and
is NOT just some special effect reserved only as
a "seasoning" added to the mag PUs.

Thanks Golem. I am sitting here with this wonderful instrument and wonder exactly about the same things you have just mentioned. I will have to play a little with the EQ if the piezo is run all by himself. Currently (after approx. 1 hour with her) I still consider it as an "interesting effect", the icing on the cake. The might change with time and me discovering the piezo.

@nurnay: I saw upfront to the transaction quite a number of high res. pictures that clearly proofed that its an original. And thanks god, I have it in my hands as I write this (hm, actually on my legs) and it is an original. Some previous owner must have broken the flip latches of the original battery housing.
