Off Topic Crazy/Stupid Idea. But I like it

If EBMM made more Options available or started a Custom Shop, I wouldn't have to do this.
But if it isn't even possible to get a normal Bongo without a painted Neck, people will keep modifying their Basses and Guitars.
On the Guitar Side Bob did a beautiful Re-Top of an Axis and a Morse with Spalted Maple. Another Thing you can't buy.
I'm not trying to copy the Best Bass thats out there. I'm just making it more beautiful and unique, and if there's enough people who like it, maybe we can finally get a Bongo BFR

Hmmm...don't mean to be a stick in the mud...but...isn't it a bit on the rude side to be discussing this on the site of the original manufacture of the bass you plan to copy?!? Unless, I missed something...

If that's rude, then I'm just as rude for refinishing my Bongo in Daphne Blue (not an OEM option) and for refinishing one Bongo neck in a clear gloss and another neck in a satin tobacco leaf.

I understand why they don't have a custom shop and more options, but that doesn't mean that I didn't want to do a custom finish.

I Have refinished one my Stingray's and done a few other things to it apart from paint! I cant say that I have made it better than it was when it left the factory but I have made it different and it does make me happier the way it is cause after all I'm the one who has to play it!

ok...so maybe the part of it being a 'copy' of the design (body) and not a modification of an existing instrument got lost on everyone...so, I guess the answer from you all is "No, we don't think it is rude to do this on the manufacturer's site"...ok...just a difference in the perception of etiquette. It's a slippery slope argument, to be sure. If he was paying someone else to copy the Bongo shape in fancy woods, I would think it in bad taste to post it here. People swap out tuners, pickups, bridges, rip frets out, refinish, relic, etc, etc. If he is taking a bass he bought and taking wood that he fashions into a new body and doesn't attempt to sell it as "rare" or as OEM, fine. Or, he starts to sell them to other people, not fine.

This is a pretty singular incident. I don't think there will be 10s of people making new fancy wood bodies for their Bongos. Around the time the 5th to 15th thread like this starts, I reserve the right to shake an angry fist at danny-79 for opening Pandora's Box.

Keep in mind, there was at least one Bongo BFR at one point. I owned one

I think this is a cool idea. The thing is...I'm sure you love woodworking and it would be a pretty challenging project but could be very satisfying to do so if you think you can pull it off and be happy with the result I say Go for it. Heck...even if you're not happy with the result it's still worth doing for the challenge of it.

By the way...just wanted to point out...there is actually a BFR Bongo HS with solid Rosewood neck for sale right now in the For Sale thread. These don't come up very often but they are out there.

True it is the manufactures website, funded by for the promotion of. The only possible problem I can see being caused by talk of modification is when other manufactures names come into the equation "I swapped my pick up out for a ****** brand pick up"
But then again why would anybody ever want to work on there sound as a musician by way of experimenting with part swapping on there MM?
Idea/tip, keep any parts you take off (like even the whole body!) and put them away for safe keeping so that if you ever (and why would you ever would? ) decide to move the bass on then you have a stock/standard bass to sell, nobody can knock you down on the asking price or accuse you of molesting a MM cause it is now all back to original, just slightly older in other places than in others (bit like most people )

In short, any talk of mods ---> ---> That way
