I was over in the gear page looking at different threads and came across a few about music man necks being too small and complaining about them. I know the nut width is a bit smaller but have you guys had problems playing the guitars , I feel the difference but it doesn't make too much a difference. I just didn't get all the hate on music man necks over there. I kind of find it easier to make certain chords on mm necks. I don't know just thought the hate was odd from some of the comments .

I have come to the conclusion for the most part, they complain about anything that isn't a relic'd up "F" guitar.

Somewhat of a frustrated reply - so editing to add EBMM does get some love and respect on the GearPage too but I have heard many sentiments on what you say.

Some people just have a hate on for things for no particular reason. We're all very fortunate to have so much choice from so many companies these days. Once upon a time you had little choice.

I often read those threads and laugh. You go see shows from the pros where they're switching between guitars of all shapes a sizes ... just tools for the job, and they can play anything. The polar opposite of "I can't play necks that aren't 1/8" wider ..." etc.

I think we need to put things into perspective. A lot of the members of TGP were in their prime before a lot of us were born. They grew up on Gibson and Fender and there wasn't much else. A lot of the guys who bash on the necks probably have never even put their hands on one. People just develop prejudices and dismiss things based solely on being new or different. My favorite comments are from the guys who say their hands cramp up when playing a Music Man neck? Really? That whole 1/16" at the nut all of a sudden sends joints and muscles into shock? Those are the people you know are full of it. I'd take anything said over their about MM very lightly.

They might of been playing before we were born but if they were playing vintage fenders wouldn't that have been a. 1 5/8 nut width neck?
I believe most of brad paisleys guitars have a 1 5/8 nut width and those are vintage teles . If now wouldn think his necks are much different than the Albert lee necks.

Yea the TGP crowd has lots of internet opinions and the MM neck thing is one go them. The funniest one to me is when some one starts slagging the size, they look like toys, etc.

My love of MM is the neck, body size, comfort and playability, I could care less if everyone else things they suck, I do not think that way:)

BTW they slag on everything including my favorite guitarist Joe Bonamassa, pretty sure there is not one TGP member who can do what Joe does IMO.

I quit visiting tgp a few years ago because of all the ignorant uninformed hate and opinions... for what that's worth. ..

For my needs and preferences, EBMM necks are the best. I don't harbor any acrimony toward other brands. I just do not buy those brands.

The smaller nut width is one of the things I love most about the MM necks. I can't bend that wrist anymore, so it is super helpful.

The main reason I play EBMM is the necks, they are great. I have tried other brands and I hate the necks but that doesn't meant they are rubbish just not for me. People complain to much and level headed people really do not care about all the sh*t they moan about.

I've heard that looks like a toy guitar toy and then they hear it amplified and can't believe the sound from a bolt on guitar.

Many famous players don't or didn't seem to have any problem playing EBMM necks:
Luke, Steve Morse, Joe Walsh, EVH, Keith Richards, John Fogerty...

And many not so famous, whom I admire:
Richie Castellano, Jamie Humphries, Alex Hutchings, Mark Lucas...

The notion that the necks are no good or too small or whatever is just absurd and only serves to highlight the ignorance of the uninformed or the unfairness of the prejudiced.

Well here's one ol'gits opinion on MM necks.
When I started playing guitar live in 1971, guitar options were a lot fewer. It seemed to be, Strat, Les Paul, Tele, SG. Choices within these genres depended on your location. Cardiff UK had few shops - London (e.g. Denmark street) provided more outlets.
In the main, most money making guitar players used the above guitars.
The neck on my 74 Les Paul was in comparison to MM guitars of today, large whereas the neck on my 68 SG was really slim - both lacquered of course, but on top of lack of much choice of guitars the choice of necks to the average punter, living in the 'burbs, was limited too.

When I bought my first MM guitar in 2006 I was sold on
1) The sound of my mag/piezo Albert Lee and also
2) the neck.
ohhhh the neck it is just perfect - love it love it love it. Set up is a breeze.
TGP - keyboard warriors. I don't bother with them any more.
