I own a lot of ernie Ball guitars. I was wondering if it was just me, but I've noticed that the guitar cases are too bulky. The suhr cases are the perfect fits on a plane . yeah Ernie Ball guitarist fit in suhr cases.. so my question is no one's thinking about maybe traveling with these cases. they're so bulky. I've asked this question at the Namm show.. the answer I got was so ridiculous.. The answer I got was oh it's to protect the guitar.. Even the road cases are slimmer.

Welcome. What do you have for EBMM's?

They've stopped giving the SKB style cases and gone to the Mono case which I personally don't like. I've thought that if I were to get a new EBMM, I'd sell the Mono case and get a better slimmer hard shell case. I'm not a professional musician, just a guy that attempts to try to play something, so traveling with the guitar isn't anything that I'm concerned about.

Mono gig bags are fabulous but I am too not a fan of the new EBMM Mono cases. Back in my day they gave G&G cases with every new MusicMan guitar!
I have several Mono bags and would have been quite happy getting one of those instead of the new, giant EBMM Mono cases. I have a dual guitar Mono case that's about the same size as the EBMM one!

I like the mono case that came with the Kaizen quite a bit. It’s much more a soft case than a gig bag. The inside is very precisely molded to the shape of the guitar. If this case ever fell over or got knocked around a bit I think the guitar would likely be just fine. I can’t say the same for my R0 or .594 in their hard but not as securely fitted cases.

Yea not sure which cases(s) the OP is ranting on but I so dislike the new Mono cases, give me the SKB case all day long.

Up on pedestal....I think both the SKB and Mono cases don't offer enough protection.
Don't get me wrong...if you're looking for a dust cover then either will do.

I had a guitar go down a flight of stairs at a gig in an SKB...guitar never played the same again.
The Mono ones are glorified gig bags.

When we used to ship gear we used checkered aluminum cases for P.A. equipment and amps. Hard aluminum shell, contoured foam on the inside. Never had an issue ever with people tossing gear.

Give me something like this any day and I know it's protected.

Mr Steve Morse :
“In reality, I designed my Music Man to fit in the overhead bin of small aircraft and be carried into a three-quarter-size gigbag, so it’s very easy to carry aboard a plane,"

I'm not sure what that has to do with protecting a guitar. Throwing a guitar into a overhead bin without a case is just a sign that you don't give a f...
Reminds me of stories where Ed just threw his guitar in the back of his pickup truck.
Steve is a legend about cutting apart his guitars. Not to forget that he can just ask EBMM for a new one and they would hand it to him.

Well, Steve is still playing his #1 guitar (the neck was changed after so many refret).

Thus after 40 years and so many world tours with Deep Purple, Flying Colors ... this guitar is still his number one, even if Music Man can give him plenty of new guitars for free.
The gig bag in the overhead bin is perhaps the best solution : there are so many horror stories of guitars, cello, sitar ... destroyed by luggage handlers.
