So I was checking out Howard Stern on Sirius again (I love that guy, he's nuts) and he has a guitar player on his show that was only born with one hand, he has about half of his right hand forearm.

The guy played a bunch of Van Halen licks and pulled off Eruption pretty damn well by using a home-made prosthetic that holds a guitar pick.

During the show he said something to the effect of "I wouldn't be able to play nearly this well if it weren't for my Ernie Ball guitar." That's not word-for-word, but it's the gyst of what he said. His name is John Denner.

If you get Time Warner cable you can probably PPV it on HowardTV (I don't).

Just thought some of you might find it interesting.

That is very interesting actually. If I was involved in an accident that left me handicapped, it would be hard to keep playing, but if I was 'handicapped' from birth and had to learn from scratch, I could do it. It would be too frustrating to know how i used to be able to play before the 'accident'. You never know though. Nothing in life is certain except death and taxes...

If you look at his youtube vid you'll see that his Axis has a non-EBMM neck. It has some version of a hockey stick headstock.

Oh I see what you are saying, but the guitar in the YouTube video isn't the one he used on Howard Stern's show.

Wow- that is wild! I knew a guy growing up that had the same handicap - you wouldn't have known it by the way he played sports, or played a guitar (similar situation for holding a pick but really just a strummer).

Yeah, I caught this the other day when it aired. The guy is amazing. He's going down to Walter Reed to try to encourage some of the disabled vets to find ways to keep doing things they love. All on his own dime.. no sponsor.

At one point Dave Mustaine had an accident, and he developed a condition called saturday night palsey in his left arm. He talks about it at about 2:19 here:

From what I undersrtand the Mustaine thing was a front. I have some very good insider info on that one...Plate glass doors don't work well when it comes to keeping nerve tissue intact...

My friend Homer had a debilitating accident as a kid that left him without a right hand, and he's a killer player...he's got the david gilmour thing totally down. I love the guy and he's a great dude and inspiration...

this guy is great and I admire every person which shows that a handicap is not a barrier of doing something or be as good as anybody else in doing something.

Most handicapped people (which I work with) don´t have the belief that they can do something in a special way. So this guy and others are good guides for them

I actually know a guy that put his first through a window in drunken frustration with his wife and severed a tendon in his forearm.

It healed funny, the tendon stuck to another one or something, and he can't bend his fingers right.

He gave up playing unfortunately.

Its hard to imagine just how difficult it would be to play guitar with one real arm! Gotta have tremendous courage and mental toughness to even bother. Hats off to the guy!!!!!!!
