any one has any preferences between the one piece maple neck with the skunk stripe,or the maple cap on a sr 4? do you believe there is any sound difference ?

I think the maple cap is more attractive because i've never been a fan of skunk stripes, but i think the sound difference, if ANY at all, could be attributed by different pieces of maple on different necks, no two pieces of the same wood are ever the same. Besides, it's hardly the sort of difference where people are going to say "pfft, he would sound better if his bass had a maple cap rather than a skunk stripe".

Sound Difference they say is very little, this is going back to a Leo Fender comment in 1965 when Fender was really doing a lot of maple caps, today the glues are much better so I'd have to say I don't hear a difference, Maple Cap over rosewood is a Night & Day difference, Hope this helps.

I'm not sure anyone one the planet could hear a tone difference?

Maybe I'm wrong.
