11s on a jp???

Hey guys am gonna be recording my own stuff in the summer and some of the tracks i worked out ages ago need a standard C tuning. I was gonna put 11s (or 12s) on the JP caused i did that on my old Ib**ez and i got a good sound (it was the ernie ball 12 gauge that petrucci uses) I currently have the JP setup for 9s what would give a 9s sorta feel 11s or 12s?? And would the nut have to be filed for the new gauge??

Well, obviously the thicker gauge string (12s) will feel less like a 9, than the 11s. But the 11s don't feel like 9s to me at all either.

You may have to have the nut filed....I did when I changed one of my JP's to 11s. But, from what I have read on past threads, it is kind of an art form...so, I would not do that myself. Get the opinion of a luthier you trust and see what he/she says.

You'd definitely need to have it set up with stiffer springs (or additional) in the trem.
