After seeing the JP13 and hearing that BFR guitars would now be designated with a neckplate instead of inlay, I was curious if these changes would also also apply to older guitars, or simply JP13-onward. I'd love to be able to get say... a JPX without the BFR inlay.

I had this question out there last week as well....For example will all JP X, XI and 12 have the BFR backplate or will they still get the inlay.

Im hoping backplate so it will make mine a little more special...lol.

Big Poppa or Drew...could you answer this?

My guess is the axing of the inlay is probably a cost consideration. Its much cheaper to make the plate, by far. With that in mind, I'd say it's going to be retroactive to all prior models...which is a shame. I found the inlay to be classy. I wish they would have kept it as an up-charge option.

I agree! I'd definitely pay a bit extra for the inlay.

I have got on to some friends for them being to picky about thier fiddles and all things aesthetic.....however when I open the case and see that inlay and the light make it show pinks and silver and purple etc......its hot....lol

I love the inlay....but then again I do like the look of the new BFR as well.....more bare bones which can be a turn on too....

The inlay is so classy. I have the JPXI and JPXII and now want a JPX but it seems like it won't match my others which kind of sucks :/

The picture that was linked earlier in this thread is a new JP-finish for 2013(BFR's could not be ordered in solid finishes before, "Black" is the first one to be offered) so it is still unclear whether the old finishes(like Cherry Burst) still comes with the Crest or not from 2013 and onwards.

Any BFR ordered at/after NAMM 2013 will ship with a BFR neck plate and no 12th fret inlay unless EB changes something along the lines. Yes, this will include JPX, XI, 12, etc...

Then this makes me happy in a way. That will make my JPXI7 a little more special in my eyes in 10 years.....:) Yes, the inlay will make it special....I know, its the little things....

Shucks, I really liked the inlay. I thought it was classy.

Oh well there's a reason for everything, I can live without it

Wow, I guess I'm the only guy that hated it! Great to know though - this is definitely the year I get a Petrucci!
