Anyone comment about wonderful bass tone? What a bass tone, man, someone tell me which Music Man model is that?

As MrMusashi pointed out: A Cutlass I.

30 years old ash body + graphite neck + 2 band EQ = tonal bliss.

However, you can be happy if you find one with a straight neck (hint: there's no trussrod in those) and in decent shape. I found the 100th Anniversary StingRay to be easier found and to actually sound at least as good if not better.

I watched a DVD Gary Moore live...somewhere... I don't remember the Title, anyway, bass player played pre EB Stingray with (I'm pretty sure) ebony fretboard!!!

Is that possible?
Nice whole black SR4, including vintage bridge with mute pads, matching Headstock and if I remember well, black ebony fretted FB without dots?

Anyone else watched that DVD?

Edit: OK I found it, there are dots on it, sorry, here it is:

A few more shots. The bass is boxed and on it's way. Once I get it, I'll check the neck date. It's definately a PreEB, but I don't quite know what year.

Okay. I popped the neck off. It's dated May 21, 1980 and the body is dated 1978. I would assume this NOT the original neck. What does this do to the value of the bass?

Should she stay or should she go? The dealer has offered me a full refund and apologizes for the neck date. I took it to my local guy here and he says, "the neck is beautiful". Perfect relief and truss rod is fine. I plugged it in and it does have a ton of "booty". The tone was big and beefy. The pots worked great. What would you do? Keep it? Send it back? Is it a big deal if the body is dated Nov. 1978 and the neck May 1980? This is my first vintage bass.

Did you buy it as an investment intrument (from what I have read of your posts no ??)
You plugged it in and it had a "ton of booty" if that is what it sounds like to you my man, keep it, you could spend thousands on a new, custom or vintage bass and not have that "ton of booty" sounds like you have a winner, rock on.

She's officially mine! I'm gonna clean her up, throw on some new strings and track it this weekend for a song on a Tommy Bolin tribute album. Thanks all!
