I've found a decent looking deal on a 1982 Stingray in good shape but has a Kahler bridge w/ trem arm. The seller is asking $1200...is that a good deal? If I were to ever want to resell the bass would the Kahler bridge be a terrible deterent?

Thanks guys!

id guess that it's a bad buy. You can get a used stingray for way less + the price really isnt too far off getting a brand new SR4

as far as the trem... well, there's a small market for those. so id assume it would hurt resale cuz most people dont want a trem on their bass.

my 2 cents

I think that it is a bad deal. Seriously...82 was a dark era for Music Man...Tommy and leo were fighting and some truss rods might not be as curved as you would want... the tonal secret to the stingray is the bridge......a kahler really kills the bass Im not trying to sell you a new bass just telling you my opinion

Mucho agreement with the boss. I realize that 82 is considered, technically, the pre-EB era, but the early 80s basses are not on par with the 76-79 instruments on many levels. But definitely on the "vintage value" level.

If it were stock and you could play it and check everything out first, especially the truss rod, then maybe 1200 wouldn't be a bad deal. That Kahler would be a deal-breaker for me, although I realize that this, again, is just an opinion.

If it is the bass I think it is, the body is routed out for the tremelo. The seller has been trying to sell it for a long time.

I would pass, unless you like it so much you want to keep it forever, cause you would have trouble selling it too...

Kahlers were meant for guitar heroes. Not bass players.

The debate in my mind is done now. I'll let that '82 black SR4 at Bass NW lapse for now in favor of a sweet new HH. They want $1600.

Good answer Rizzo!
