"What Albert Lee recordings would you recommend"?

Go out a get yourself a copy of Albert Lee's Speechless I think it's from like '86 or '87 and has been reissued. You will love it !!

I was also groovin' on Tear It Up -Albert Lee and Hogan's Heroes

Definitely get Speechless though!

Since the Albert Lee model didn't come into being until 1987 I'm not sure if it was featured on that album.

Thanks guys, I'll check these recording out at my favorite music shop. I believe there were a few of these for sale there. Pug, patience it will arrive before you know it!

Spud, someone informed that Albert was still using the older MM amps (HD 130 - I think this is the designation) though I did stumbled on a site where he also speaks of experimenting with Fender (I cannot recall the type) and Rivera amps. I wish I had discovered that sooner as I saw Paul Rivera at his NAMM booth and could have easily asked him for his take on it. He was quite approachable and open the previous year at NAMM. Albert did speak of working with Rivera..."to come up with something"

Did you folks know if AL uses MM heads or combos? Are they the earlier or later models? (I've heard that some design changes were made in the later models). Any one have knowledge on effects he may use? I've been told that Leo Fender had a hand in designing MM amps yet others have told me that he only concentrated on guitars at that point. Any clues?

I kinda wish That Sterling would step in here. He has said before that Alberts first choice is MM and I think he uses a combo. If he is unable to take his MM with him, he will use a Rivera or Fender. He could go through a transistor radio and still sound good!! On the DVD he uses a MM combo, and a digital delay (the name escapes me!)

How is the guitar?

Currently playing his Albert and a Tanglewood Semi with Resonator.

Spud,

Quick question for ya, what do you have your Albert set up with, string gauge-wise?

I was reading the FAQ section regarding the standard factory set-up and it mentions that Albert's come with

Albert Lee: 10-13-16(all RPS)-26-36-46 available in single strings only

I haven't seen any string sets for sale with that gauge (well, at least one containing the 16)

I snapped a couple of Top e strings - but I do bend the crap out of them!
So I put some 9's Dadarrio EXLS520 Stainless steel strings on - and the sound sucked so bad !!! 9-11-16-24-32-42

I have some Gibson strings on there now 10 -?-?-? ( I can't find the box) I really loved the "Gibson Brites" but can't get them anymore ooohhhhh - my fav !!
I don't get too "strung out" :D on guage strings and invariably put on whatever comes to hand.
I have tried Harley Benton Strings at less than £1 a set!!! and they have sounded good 10-13-17-26-36-46
I also have a Harley Benton set of 9=11=16=24=32=42.

Also ready to try out is an Ernie Ball Custom Guage Stainless Steel Hybrid Slinky
at 9-11-16-26-36-46.

I'd like to drop a guage on the G string to about a 15 as I am finding some of the Albert Lee Bends (within a chord using the first finger) a bit difficult.
