I bought a black JP6 and I'm a convert. So this is my first post and I look forward to learning a lot more about these great guitars.

I was going to post a review of a shootout between the JP6 and my other guitars but I don't know all the rules about mentioning other brands etc.

Either way, the build quality and comfort is unbelievable. Great instrument.

Why is it that now that I own one, I want more!

Welcome! As far as mentioning other brands - I don't know if there are any hard and fast rules. Usually names aren't mentioned - but definitely alluded to.

Oh yeah - one rule: No pic = guitar doesn't exist! ;)

LOL, yeah pics. I have to get my act together with the old digital camera.

It is black with matching headstock, Piezo, and dot inlays. The more I look at it, the more I love the design. I was very back and forth about comfort and ease vs. big tone. This guitar is such a great balance of both.

Oh, here is a question, is there any harm in dropping down to Drop D for a song and then bringing it back up or should I have a separate guitar set up for that tuning?

Thanks,

Mike

No harm at all, just not a quick and easy thing to do though with the floating bridge. I wouldn't want to do it between songs. Why do you think JP carries so many on tour with him? ;)

And welcome...

Thanks for the advice.

What will happen if I just drop the low E down to a D on the fly, will it screw up the intonation or the rest of the tuning?

It's possible it would screw up the intonation a little, but it would definitely knock the rest of the strings out of whack and you'd have to go through adjusting each one, probably several passes.

At least that's been my experience with my JP. Going to drop D is not a trivial matter with the floating bridge. It can be a pain to be honest which is why I keep another guitar tuned that way.

I also like to keep the bridge level with the body on my JP and spent a lot of time tweaking to get it and keep it that way. Changing string gauges doesn't help... ;)

Nazgul,

Hey don't worry, you can mention other brands here - it's okay!! It's kinda not the brand name that will get you in trouble, it's kinda what you "say" about it, well, sort of. Here, let me give you a little illustration: I was at a jam the other night and this guy hands me his guitar to check out. It was a F....r, and boy what a piece of *%&@ (not a swear word) it was compared to my Axis. I'm sure glad I only play MM guitars!!:) I hope this helps.

Okay, well all is well with the JP6 (my first EBMM.)

One of my first questions to you guys was about Drop D with the floating bridge. I tried it briefly the other night and it seemed okay and the guitar stayed in tune. I brought it back up and it was alright. Anyway, I just ordered a Mystic Dream with the matching headstock and Piezo to be on safe side. YAHOO!!!

But my unfamilarity with the floating bridge leads me to this question. Do I need a setup everytime I change strings? I don't know what came with my guitar but I would like to put some thicker strings on just to give me a little more resistance on the low E (D) chug. Is there a trick to this with the floating bridge?

Thanks,

Mike

"Comfort" I couldn't agree more. Mine felt like an old friend 20 min into playing the sucker. I can hardly wait to see what the 6 string JP feels like. I drop my E to a D with minimal tuning problems I use RPS 40-10's with a 58 bottom on my JP7. I should mention I tune to Eb, not that it really matters...but it might??
Damn my JP7 rocks! thanks again to Pete D and the EBMM team for making it happen.

or these .... optimal for drop tuning

** your JP came with 10-46's so you might need some slight reconfiguring if you go with a chunkier string (that's what she said)
