Hey Dhalif, can you tell me what the problem was and whether you were able to resolve it? I'm having the same issue with a 10/2009 JP6 strung with D'Addario EXL110's.

I actually have the same problem with my new JP6 as well. Gone through 4 high E already, very similar to your situation.
Can you let us know what CS recommned?

I've seen a few related threads where new saddles were recommended, but I my guitar is going in to the UK distributor to have a different issue fixed so I'm hoping they can sort this out as well.

Try emailing CS while someone replies here sharing their story about why their high E's were breaking.

Hi guys,

Sorry to bring this old thread back but I'm going through the same problem on my JP-7. My E string is breaking at the ball. First one was a D'addario and second one an Earnie Ball. I'm using 10s. I'm an experience and gentle player. I have many guitars, from Les Pauls to James Tylers with and without locking tremolos. Usually use 10s for standard tuning and 11s for half step down. Never had a string breakage problem. Could you guys that have gone through this help me. The saddle seems fine by the way and as I mention the string breaks clean at the ball. The guitar is no longer under warranty BTW and is my first 7 string guitar. Maybe I just don't know how to deal with it :)

Thanks!
Alex

this happened all the time when I got my JP. As soon as I got the RPS slinkies, the problems went away! The guitar comes stock from the factory with RPS slinkies on, and it's what Petrucci uses as well!

burr in the saddle is my suspicion. you might try swapping the saddle on your 1st and 6 strings.

Could be a sharp edge closer to the end of the string, in the tailpiece, etc. depending on the guitar. If the windings near the ball are broken, they'll unwrap and you'll get what you're describing. So I'd also think you have a burr or sharp edge somewhere. It's just unusual to have so many strings break in the same place.

Another option is to try the EB RPS strings, they're reinforced at the ball end. Maybe that'll help?

All it takes is a sharp edge or a little wear somewhere and a string can break frequently in the same place. It doesn't happen very often but no guitar or brand is immune. It's something I've seen most often on guitars with trapeze or stop tailpieces (in which case it's very obvious what's happening). And it can also happen in trem blocks. It's annoying and frustrating but it's usually easily fixed. The loop at the ball end of plain strings is the most prone to this, which is why EB produce the Reinforced Plain Strings. Wound strings are kind of self-reinforcing, and don't need additional protection.
