Nice day! love that lick before all the legatto (loved that too!) Slow it down and show me how it's done ? ;)

thanks :)

to be honnest, I dont know how I can play those things...when I plug the guitar my brains goes to "automatic" and I just play.

there's no way for me to play those things note by note...I still have the feeling that I can play the guitar but I don't know nothing about it...:D

Shame - you ought to just sit down and video yourself (oh you have!) and select some of the meatier licks - slow them down, tab them and shove it on a DVD.
A guy called Johhny 7 does it in the US and probably earns a fortune !!!

Do you read music for the guitar?

Well theres hope for me then - I used to play the trombone from reading music but when I started learning guitar, I couldn't be bothered to learn the fretboard.

I wish I had now.

Anyway nice playing - hope you come over to Cardiff sometime - if ya do call me up.

Tristan, that is awesome! Is there a specific learning method that you used or followed to become that good? I've purchased Metal Method, Fretboard Logic, and many books and none of them seem to keep my attention for very long. I'm starting to think many of the people I see playing so well on the boards (such as yourself) are a combination of a lot of practice hours and natural talent. I've been playing off and on since I was in 6th grade, but recently (within last year) I've been try to play a lot more. I try to play by ear. I can hear music well and if I could transpose what I hear, perhaps I'd be as good as you, but my hands suck! They're like these big, fat, uncoordinated, arthritic fingers that seem to fight against me trying to play. Is there anything you can recommend as far as learning and/or practicing? I hate sitting on the internet for hours researching for that next perfect guitar to buy when I play aweful. Perhaps, I'll try a switch to drums.
Thanks,

nothing else than playing ;)

yes ! for me, one of the most important thing is the GEAR....changing sounds, necks, feelings, gives you a new inspiration ...for an example, I did not play a lot for the past months...since I have the rad red and the rocktron voodu, I cant' stop playing and playing again...

somtimes your brains and your ears needs fresh blood...

playing in front of someone is very important too...you never react the same way than in your home studio...you play better, because you want to GIVE something, and not just play the guitar...each time you can play live...GO

more tristan licks?

Hey Tristan,

I loved that video clip demo of your "Modern Pentatonic" lick (would that technically be from the Dorian-Blues-hybrid scale?). Do you have any more lick demos you could share with us?

Also, do those Graphtec saddles you put on your Luke reduce string breakage? I find myself breaking way too many high E's....
